Briarwood Christian Advances

It was closer than many thought it would be, but as they normally do 5A region 8 put up a very tough team and Briarwood Christian (13-0) had to fight to put away J.O. Johnson (10-3).

Matthew Gordon forced a fumble by Travian Pruitt just as he was headed for a score that would bring Johnson within two early in the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars didn't throw in the towel, but Barrett Trotter put the nail in the coffin with a touchdown run as the Lions won 35-20.

The future Auburn Tiger, Trotter, completed 17 of 27 passing attempts for 186 yards and two touchdowns. He added 52 yards on the ground and two more scores.

Briarwood Christian will have to travel again next week to face Cullman (13-0).

UMS Wright vs. Williamson

UMS Wright hit the .500 mark (6-6) last week with a 3-0 win over Eufaula and facing a Williamson team that wasn't giving up many points, but scoring them in bunches.

Bulldogs' Coach Terry Curtis predicted this week the Williamson quarterback was their key to victory. Brandon Smith had 327 yards in the air and on the ground scoring three touchdowns which advanced Williamson to the semi-finals with a rematch over St. Paul's at home.

Charles Henderson vs. St. Paul's

This was not the game Charles Henderson (12-1) was looking for. All year a play here or there has saved the Troy team all year. Quarterback Brent Poole has pulled his share of rabbits out of the hat, but after falling 21-0 it was obvious that living on the edge wasn't going to defeat Ivan Matchett and his fellow Saints.

The dual Alabama commits rushed for 198 yards. Matchett had 128 with a touchdown while fellow future Tider Mark Barron rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior quarterback A.J. McCarron completed 11 of 16 passes for 195 yards and two touchdown in the 49-11 victory. source for Alabama high school football.
