Caleb Mitchell Updates Recruitment

Caleb Mitchell was an outstanding athlete for the Russellville Golden Tigers for three years where he accumulated numerous accolades for his play on the field.

After turning in a big junior season Caleb Mitchell was awarded first team All-State, All-Region 8 and All-Area in Northwest Alabama.

He picked up the same accolades this season, and he was also an alternate in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game. ScoutSouth.com spoke with Caleb Mitchell as he gave us the latest update in his recruitment.

"Arkansas State was the last to come by school before the dead period, and they said they would be back in touch with me pretty soon. They talked pretty positive," Mitchell said from his home in Russellville, (Ala).

"Samford and Jacksonville State are also calling a lot. Both have as good as said I had an offer, but they haven't made it official."

"Tennessee Tech and UT-Martin are recruiting me real hard, especially UT-Martin. They are constantly in contact with me. They offered me early on, and they have really started recruiting me hard here lately."

"I have an official visit set up with Tennessee Tech on January 11th, and one with UT-Martin on the 18th."

"Tuskegee came by the school and told me they knew I was looking at a lot of schools, but if wanted to come to Tuskegee to just call the coach and come on over there."

"I'm still hearing from Vanderbilt and Alabama a lot. Vanderbilt told me they had a couple of guys that were in front of me on their board, but I could still get an offer if neither of those worked out."

"Coach Cignetti came by the school again--I guess it was three weeks ago. He told me they had a spot for me if I could graduate early, but I can't do that. If I had known it when school started I could have done it, but there is no way I can do it now."

"He (Coach Cignetti) told me not to give up on them yet, that I still have a chance to get an offer from 'Bama."

"I don't know what I'm going to do right now. I'm just waiting to see what happens and how things go on my visits. I haven't set up any other visits, but I could later in January."

Russellville's Taz Tillery signed with UT-Martin in 2006, and he saw playing time during his true freshman season as an offensive lineman.
