"My coach hears from a few schools, mostly Alabama, LSU and Auburn right now," Ryan Smith says.
"Those three schools make sure I know about every event at their school, and they invite me to be involved in activities. They send me practice schedules and other things so I can go down and watch if I decide I want to do that."
"I went on unofficial visits to Alabama's Junior Day, and Auburn's Junior Day. I really liked both schools and all the facilities. They were very similar in the way we toured the campus and stadium."
While Auburn, Alabama and LSU are the three schools showing the most interest, they aren't the only ones.
"I have gotten mail from a lot of schools," he said. "I get a lot of mail from Oregon, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Kentucky among others."
"I am going to go to Alabama and Auburn for camp this summer."
"I don't plan to go to anymore junior days this spring. Once you've been to one you've pretty much seen it all."
Smith grew up a fan of one in-state school, but says he doesn't plan on eliminating anyone this early in the recruiting process.
"I grew up a big Auburn fan, but I want to take a look at any school who is interested in me. I also like Alabama, and if I get offers from those two schools it would probably come down to Alabama and Auburn," Smith said.
"But, it's a long time until I can receive offers. A lot of things could happen between now and then, so I'll just take it slow and try to improve the next two years."
Smith is 6-2, 208 pounds and runs a 4.60 40-yard dash.
"I would like to play quarterback in college, but I think my best position might be defensive back," Smith concluded.
