SE Elite Camp: Dae Spence
"Oh, it was a lot of fun," Dae Spence reported. "I got to meet the best cornerback in the country in Dre Kirkpatrick and some of the best linebackers in the country. I participated with the best athletes in the state, and Georgia had a lot of talent over there too."
"I feel like I learned some new things, like how to cut my 40-time down some. I was doing fine on the back end of the sprint, but I was not getting a good start. I also liked the new drills with the ladder. I really enjoyed it."
Spence was hampered by a shoulder separation last season but looks forward to getting back to full speed during his senior season.
"I separated my shoulder in the fourth game of the season, and I didn't get to carry the ball very much after that," Spence explained.
While Spence didn't have the opportunity to carry the rock for most of last season he did do enough to garner the attention of a couple of area colleges.
"I'm not hearing from many schools at this time, but I hope to change that this summer and fall," he said. "I have talked to Memphis, and they seem pretty interested. I have talked to Auburn."
Spence tells us of his plans for the summer.
"I am going to camp at Auburn, and I am going to Tuskegee in June to attend the Nike camp there," he said. "I will probably go to some other camps, but I don't know which one's I'll go to right now."
Opelika always fields a good team, and Spence can see no reason why this season is any different.
"We had a lot of young starters last year, so we will get a lot of our starters back this fall. We are also going to the spread offense, which we hope will help us," Spence said.
