David "Dee" Hawkins talks recruiting

"I will go to Mississippi State this weekend, UAB July 19th, Ole Miss the last part of July, and I will be at Alabama immediately upon returning home from Ole Miss," Hawkins stated.

"Recruiting is going good for me," David Hawkins said from his home in Attalla, (Ala.)."I went to Auburn's two-day camp, and I had a lot of fun. I wished it had lasted another day so I could have worked at linebacker."

"I worked at running back and safety while I was there. I talked to Coach [Eddie] Gran after the camp, and he liked my hands coming out of the backfield. I also talked to Coach [James] Willis and Coach [Terry] Price. I am going to send my film in after our first three games this season."

"I split time with Evan Reddick at running back last year, but I will be the feature back in our offense this season. I have shed some weight trying to slim down and improve my quickness."

"I am 5-10, 205 right now. I will play this season at that weight, or something close to it."

Hawkins is about to embark on a late summer camp tour along with his brother, Davin Hawkins.

"I will go to Mississippi State this weekend, UAB July 19th, Ole Miss the last part of July, and I will be at Alabama immediately upon returning home from Ole Miss," Hawkins stated.

"I was invited to camp at UT Chattanooga, but it is the same weekend as the MSU camp. I talk to Coach Corbin at UTC often. They like me a lot."

"Purdue also invited me to their camp, but I couldn't swing that one. Davin and I sat down with our Dad and decided which camps we wanted to attend this summer."

"I hear a lot from UAB. Coach [Lorenzo] Constantini and I talk often. They are showing a lot of interest in me as well."

"I have just started receiving interest from Oregon and Texas. Those two schools are sending me a lot of mail."

We asked The Etowah athlete which position he prefers to play at the next level.

"I can play on either side of the ball," Hawkins stated. "I would like to play linebacker, but I just want the opportunity to play college football."

"All the teams that are recruiting me want to see me work on both sides of the ball. Alabama likes me at running back and safety, while Ole Miss likes me at linebacker and running back. Everyone wants to see me at one of the three positions."

"At first I was worried about the position, and I was worried about receiving an early offer from someone. Now, I am just taking things as they come. I am working out hard, running a lot of 110s, and working on staying at 205 pounds."
