Cullman's Tyler Caldwell still gun slinging

Tyler Caldwell and the Bearcats picked up where they left off in 2007. Cullman went undefeated until they ran into Barrett Trotter and the Briarwood Lions in the semi-finals of the 5A state playoffs in 2007, and it appears they have started the season off much the same as last.

Tyler Caldwell led the spread attack for Cullman last season, and while many thought the loss of Gavin Ellis, and Mike Timmons would slow the offense it doesn't seem to be the case after week one.

Caldwell continued his success last week by throwing for 335 yards on 25-of-41 attempts. He also added two touchdowns, with no interceptions.

The leading receivers were Drew Forest, with six catches for 123 yards and a touchdown, while Kyle Johnson pulled down seven passes for 87 yards, and Riley Stewart had three receptions for 69 yards.

Ten Bearcat receivers caught passes last week, as Cullman steam-rolled Hayden 35-0 in the opening game for both clubs.

Cullman's rushing attack did appear to miss Mike Timmons as they gained only 57 yards on 14 attempts.

The Bearcats will have their hands full tonight as they travel to Jasper to take on the Walker Vikings. The Vikings lost several key players from last season's playoff team, but they are expected to be in the hunt for the region title again this season.

Tonight's match-up could go a long way in determining the champion of Region 6.
