Gallery: Hoover vs. Spain Park

Although the records may say these teams are going in separate directions, this was one of the better games I've seen so far. It had all the elements an avid football fan requires. presents Bucs vs. Jaguars in action from last week's contest.

First and foremost, it had the rivalry element. Don't let anyone fool you. The bands may share the field at the beginning of the game and the PA announcer may say "let's not forget that we live in same community together," but these schools love nothing better than to beat the other every year.

Darrius McMullin, 6-2, 260 lb. defensive tackle from Spain Park, has committed to Vanderbilt had a good game creating trouble for the offensive line for Hoover. McMullin plugged the middle and required double teams most of the night.

It also had exciting special teams play from both sides, but especially with the 74-yard kick off return for a TD by Brian Jackson to start the third quarter. The three star DB also added six tackles and a key sack in the fourth quarter.

Along with Brian Jackson,'s three star DB Pat Miller also had a solid performance. Together, they were determined to make it very difficult for Spain Park to throw the ball. These two, along with the rest of the Hoover defense, only allowed 80 yards passing for the game.

Both Spain Park and Hoover has some talented junior prospects who will for sure have eyes on them over the rest of the season and next season as well.

For Hoover, John Propst, 6-0, 200 lbs. linebacker, has a good nose for the football. With some added weight over the next year I think he will be able to handle some of the tougher blocks for the bigger OL.

Spain Park has a RB by the name of DaRon Smith, 5-10, 180 lbs. who has very good speed and can make the long run which was evident by his 72-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Spain Park also has a DT by the name of Jeremiah Jackson, 6-2, 250 lbs. who plays very strong and aggressive.

Obviously two excellent programs that always have a lot of talent, and it looks like the tradition will continue.

Final score: Hoover 34 Spain Park 24

The Bucs (5-1) play at Regions Park this week in Hoover against Mountain Brook (6-0). Spain Park (1-5) will stay at home to face Vestavia (4-2).
