Stars of Alabama 1A-3A

Two more weeks of region play as presents the Stars of Alabama for Week 8 performances.

Josh Hollingsworth
6-1, 180 pounds
Senior Quarterback

Justin Anglin
6-0, 185 pounds
Senior Running Back
3A Hamilton 8-0 (6-0)

Hollingsworth led his team in their eighth win of the season, 33-0 over J.B. Pennington. The Mississippi State verbal commitment completed eight of 16 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. Hollingsworth has completed 77-of-133 passes for 1,379 yards and 11 touchdowns for the season. He has rushed for 334 yards and four touchdowns.

Anglin returned a punt for a touchdown and had three rushing touchdowns on only four carries. He also had two pass receptions for 50 yards.

Hamilton will face Vinemont 5-3 (5-1) at home this week.

Flavio Guerrero
5-9, 190 pounds
Junior Linebacker
3A Susan Moore 7-1 (6-0)

Guerrero had 102 tackles during his sophomore season, and this week he accounted for 11 tackles, three for a loss, a sack and two pass breakups in a game against Sardis that clinched their region championship. The defensive struggle was decided by an 8-6 score.

Susan Moore will host Crossville 3-5 (3-3) this week.

Brian Donovan
6-2, 205 pounds
Senior Running Back
2A Isabella 6-2 (4-2)

Donovan and his teammates took down region opponent Thorsby 49-7. The senior had 11 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns.

Isabella will host Shades Mountain Christian 2-6 (1-5) this week.

Lucas Yancey
6-0, 160 pounds
Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

Jesse Westbrook
5-8, 165 pounds
Junior Running Back/Linebacker
2A Fyffe 6-2 (4-2)

Yancey had five receptions with 133 yards for two touchdowns in their overtime loss 36-35 to Sand Rock. He also had six tackles on defense.

Westbrook rushed for 168 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown. He also had five tackles on defense from his linebacker position.

Fyffe will host West End-Walnut Grove 5-3 (4-2) in a game moved to Thursday night due to weather concerns for Friday.

Justin Brock
5-9, 190 pounds
Senior Running Back/Linebacker

 Nathan Funk
5-10, 215 pounds
Senior Fullback/Linebacker
1A South Lamar 6-2 (6-1)

Brock registered 242 yards on 22 carries with two rushing touchdowns. He also had a nine-yard touchdown reception. The senior had six tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble return of 20 yards on defense in their 47-26 win over undefeated Berry.

Funk had 22 carries and ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown. He contributed eight tackles on defense.

South Lamar hosts Marion County 1-7 (1-6) this week.

Craig Sanders
6-4, 234 pounds
Junior Defensive End/Running Back
1A Ariton 6-2 (4-2)

Sanders had 133 yards rushing on five carries with four touchdowns of 35, 55, 25, and 7 yards. He also returned an interception for a touchdown. The junior had nine tackles (one for a loss), a sack and a forced fumble.

Sanders has scholarship offers from several SEC and ACC schools including the two in-state SEC teams.

Ariton will travel to play a tougher than the record indicates Geneva County 4-4 (4-2).

Demont Buice
6-2, 205 pounds
Junior Running Back
1A Gaston 6-2 (6-0)

Gaston faced Cedar Bluff last week in what was their region championship game. The junior has been hampered with an ankle sprain, but he was back to business as usual in this important game. He rushed for 199 yards and two touchdowns of 11 and 3 yards. He also converted a two-point try in a 21-14 win.

Gaston will host Woodville 1-7 (1-5) in a game moved up to Thursday night due to weather.

Trey Littlefield
6-0, 170 pounds
Junior Running Back
1A Spring Garden 6-2 (4-2)

Littlefield rushed for 122 yards on eight carries in the 51-24 victory over Woodville. He scored a rushing touchdown and returned a kick for another touchdown. He totaled 211 all-purpose yards.

Spring Garden will travel to face Skyline 0-7 (0-6) this week.

Tommy Haley-Ricks
6-0, 225 pounds
Senior Running Back
1A Hubbertville 3-5 (3-4)

Haley-Ricks carried the ball 40 times for 280 yards and two touchdowns. He added nine tackles on defense in a loss to Meek 34-27.

Hubbertville will travel to play Lynn 5-3 (5-2) this week.

Devan Parker
6-0, 175 pounds
Freshman Quarterback
2A Hatton 5-3 (3-3)

Parker completed 13-of-26 passing for 170 yards and rushed for 112 yards on 12 carries and three touchdowns in the 32-14 win over Phil Campbell. The freshman completed passes for 1,496 yards so far this season.

Hatton will host undefeated Tanner this week 8-0 (6-0).

James Sandlin
6-2, 290 pounds
Senior Defensive Tackle
2A American Christian Academy 7-1 (5-1)

Sandlin had 15 total tackles, 11 solo, in their important 22-14 victory over region opponent Fultondale. The senior had one quarterback hurry and five of his tackles were for lost yardage. Sandlin also forced four fumbles.

American Christian stays at home to face upset-minded Vincent 5-3 (3-3) this week.

Devondrick Richardson
6-4, 220 pounds
Senior Linebacker/Running Back

Calvin Fenn
5-9 205 pounds
Senior Fullback/Linebacker
2A Barbour County 6-2 (5-1)

Richardson, the South Alabama verbal commitment, had 11 tackles in their 20-6 win over Cottonwood. He also rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries.

Fenn had 12 tackles and scored two touchdowns offensively in the win.

Barbour County hosts Houston Academy 7-1 (6-0) this week.

Honorable Mention:

Adam McCarley, senior quarterback/free safety, 1A Phillips, Bear Creek, rushed 12 times for 166 yards with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. He completed 11-of-20 passing for 168 yards and three touchdowns and a two-point conversion. He made two tackles on defense and returned a punt for 16 yards in a win over Shoals Christian.

Trent Williams, junior wide receiver/linebacker, 1A Phillips, Bear Creek, caught five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a two-point conversion. He accounted for 12 tackles, an interception and two pass breakups. He also returned a kickoff for 45 yards.

Desmond Warren, quarterback/defensive back, 2A Houston County, completed 17-of-25 passing for 265 yards in a loss to New Brockton. He also had 62 yards rushing and scored on a one-yard run. Returned a 65-yard kickoff for a touchdown and made five tackles and an interception on defense.

Chance Lyon, junior linebacker, 1A Fruitdale, had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery in a win over Autaugaville.

Maurice Tate, senior running back/linebacker, 1A Linden, rushed for 129 yards on nine carries with five touchdowns in the first half. He also had eight tackles with two for a loss against John Essex.

Eries Copes, running back, 3A Geneva ran for 257 yards on 30 carries with two touchdown runs of seven and 69 yards against Wicksburg.
