Alex Phifer is a Jag

Alex Phifer is a 5-10, 185-pound two-way player from Greenville, (Ala.). Phifer has given his verbal pledge to Coach Joey Jones and the University of South Alabama, where he will play cornerback for the up and coming Jaguars.

Alex Phifer is an excellent all around football player with a solid work ethic, and exciting potential. He discussed his decision to play for South Alabama.

"Coach Brian Turner and I talk at least once each week. We have a very good relationship, which is part of the reason I want to play at South Alabama," Alex Phifer told from his home in Greenville, (Ala.).

"I have met Coach Dameyune Craig and Coach Bill Clark as well, and they are all like a big family. I really like that about them. They all treat me very well and show me a lot of love."

"South Alabama was my first offer, and I liked that they showed enough confidence in me to give me a chance to play college football. I had some other schools showing interest in me, but they had not offered me a scholarship. I'm just a small town boy that wants to play football, and South Alabama has given me that opportunity."

"It is also a very beautiful campus, and I like the location. I have not taken my official visit, but I'm looking forward to going down there sometime soon."

"I am also looking forward to meeting Coach Joey Jones. I haven't met him in person, so I'm looking forward to that."

Phifer has helped Greenville to a 6-3 record this season, and a trip to the 5A state playoffs.

"We will try to finish our season at 7-3 this week before we play Briarwood in the opening round of the playoffs," Phifer noted.

"I started playing cornerback two games back, and I like it pretty well. It's a lot of fun."

Phifer does a lot more than just play cornerback. He plays offense and special teams for Coach Ben Blackmon, and the Greenville Tigers.

"I also play wide receiver and return kicks," he said. "I have over 300 yards receiving, and a little more than 200 yards rushing. I have also scored 13 touchdowns this season. I returned one kickoff for a touchdown this season. I had a few more, but they were called back for penalties," Phifer stated.

"I'm ready to go as far as my grades. I have a 3.2 GPA and a 24 on my ACT. I have passed all my exit exams, too. I'm just looking forward to being part of something special at South Alabama. Not everyone can say they were part of building a football program. I want to help them build a good team for the future," Phifer concluded.
