ScoutSouth.com: Stars of Alabama 1A-3A

The ninth week of the season is behind us with one more week of non-region games. Many play on Halloween night before the elimination rounds begin. The ScoutSouth.com Player of the Week is a Mustang and comes from the 1A-3A ranks.

ScoutSouth.com Player of the Week:
Brian Donovan

2A Isabella 7-2 (5-2)

Donovan has put together a great season with 1,202 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. The senior averages just over 10 yards per carry. He is receiving recruiting interest from Division 1A schools and is planning visits.

The Mustangs defeated Shades Mountain 56-7 with Donovan rushing for 200 yards on 13 carries with three touchdown runs of 45, 45, and 21 yards. The big back will look to top his 1,228 yards from last season.

Senior Defensive Lineman

Dedrick Forsythe

The Green Wave is definitely back. With six shutouts from nine games you know players like McCoy are playing great football. Leeds defeated Tarrant 38-6. Big McCoy had 13 tackles with four for a loss of real estate.

Forsythe handles the other side of the ball, and the sophomore runner carried the ball 19 times for 229 yards and three touchdowns.

Leeds will look to flood their next victim before the playoffs start, and 5A Moody 3-6 (2-4) is the next one to try and hang ten on Leeds. Leeds will play Pisgah 5-4 (4-3) in the first round of the playoffs.

Tre Cosby

Junior Running Back
2A Tanner 9-0 (7-0)

Tanner has a tough task this week stepping up in class to play 3A Elkmont 8-1 (6-1), but if they can pull it off, they will accomplish what they did in 1994 when they ran the table in the regular season.

The Rattlers will find out who they face in the first round of the playoffs this weekend with a three-way tie for the job.

The undefeated Patriots defeated Autaugaville 49-8 in their last region matchup of the season. Tate is still piling up the numbers with 215 yards rushing on 16 carries scoring three touchdowns. This puts the senior over 1,500 yards and 34 touchdowns for the season. Tate had 12 tackles on defense with three for a loss of yardage.

There isn't a lot of need for Linden to pass, but Bruno was three for six with 97 yards. He ran for a five-yard score and returned a 40-yard punt for a touchdown.

Linden faces 3A Aliceville 4-5 (4-3) at home this week and will face Winterboro 4-5 (4-3) in the first round of the playoffs.

Junior Linebacker
1A J.U. Blacksher 6-3 (6-2)

2A Lanett 7-2 (6-1)

Harper rushed for 185 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 34-0 win over Randolph County. He also had three tackles on defense as the Panthers shut out the Tigers.

Lanett is the second seed out of region five behind undefeated Clay County. The Panthers will host 3A LaFayette 4-5 (3-4) this week before taking on Fyffe in what projects as one of the best games of the opening weekend's playoff rounds.

Dez Polk
5-9, 165 pounds
Senior Running Back
1A Speake 7-2 (6-2)

It is a tough task to travel to Hazlewood and try and get a win, but Speake nearly did it. In their last regional game of the season, they came up short 28-22. The electrifying Dez Polk will give them a lot to look forward to in the post-season. Polk had 30 carries for 150 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
