Panthers look Devilish

Rainy weather appears on the way as Fyffe travels to face Lanett in a region 2A matchup. Last year at this time the two teams were 20-0, and while this year doesn't find the two with that kind of success they are meeting in the first round with a combined 14-6 record.

Both of these teams are well-stocked if they decide to run the ball due to weather conditions. Lanett has two backs very capable. Scutt Morgan has rushed for over 850 yards while Evans has gained over 600 yard from the fullback position. spoke with Coach Ronnie Sikes about his season.

"We've kind of had an up-and-down season," he said. "Had we won Friday night we would have finished 8-2, but we lost a game we probably should have won."

Sikes wouldn't go so far as to say they were a better team than 3A LaFayette.

"We had a good week of practice, but they made a lot of good plays. That team could have easily finished 8-2," he stated.

Sikes talked about Coach Paul Benefield's squad who will take the long trek south to Lanett.

"They run a lot of misdirection plays, and we've really got to focus on staying at home and not running off and leaving our area, letting them run back into where we are supposed to be," he explained.

"I think it is going to be wet weather Friday, and we have to take care of the ball. That hurt us last week. We dropped four snaps from center that we dropped and either picked up or fell on. We can't do that. Take care of the ball and force the turnovers on them as well."

Lanett has a distinct advantage with it's home field, but Fyffe is not a bad traveler with a 3-2 road record this season.

"We're like 16-2 at home over the last three years," Sikes said. So it's important for us. We play much better at home than we do on the road."
