Game Play-offs Part ll

Cordova's Tim Simon set the tone in Cordova's 41-30 win over Montgomery Academy, as he dragged defenders for most of the 17 yards he picked up on the Blue Devils first play from scrimmage.

While Tim Simon set the tone Ryan Smith carried the day as he finished the game with 324 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. Smith found Jake Howton for a pair of long touchdown passes, and finished the game 3-of-3 for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Smith wasn't finished.

Smith also returned a kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown in route to amassing 149 return yards. He also rushed for 56 yards on eight carries, which gave him his final tally of 324 total yards.

Tim Simon finished the game with 132 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. The defending 3A state champions have officially started their title defense.

Hartselle : The top ranked team in 5A dominated Scottsboro in their first round game Friday night. The Tigers used a balanced attack to advance into the second round of the 5A state playoffs.

Senior running back, Marquez Jones rushed for 101 yards, and two touchdowns on only 10 carries. Jones only played three quarters before taking a seat on the Tigers bench while the younger players finished the game.

Quarterback Luke Bole passed for 159 yards and two touchdowns as the Hartselle Tigers rolled up 289 yards of offense on the evening. Forty-five of Bole's 159 yards came when he found Braddock Wilson for the long touchdown reception. The Tigers took a 41-0 lead into the final quarter.

The Hartselle Tigers will host a tough Boaz team this Friday night.

Town Creek : The Golden Bears of Hazlewood had little trouble advancing to the second round of the 1A state playoffs with a 63-7 victory over the Lynn Bears.

The Golden Bears Keenen Porter led all rushers with 273 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries. Porter scored touchdowns from 3, 28, 30 and 34 yards.

The victory will set up a rematch with the Speake Bobcats, which the Golden Bears defeated 28-22 in the ninth week of the season.

Hackleburg : The Speake Bobcats won a hard fought road game to advance to the second round of the 1A playoffs. Speake used all three running backs to control the ball, the clock, and the scoring. The result was a 24-14 victory.

Dez Polk rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, while Tyler Gillespie added 81 yards and a touchdown, and Joey Hyde chipped in 63 yards rushing. The victory earns the Bobcats another shot at region champ, Hazlewood.

Other Scores and notes:

Gordo blasted Marbury as Ben Howell rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only seven attempts. Gordo advances to face Dadeville, who won their opening game 31-14 over Aliceville.

Fayette: The Fayette County Tigers snatched victory from the jaws of defeat Friday evening as Joe Smith blocked a St. Clair County punt, and later scored the winning touchdown from three yards out.

Fayette advances to take on Cherokee County this week.

Tuscaloosa: American Christian Academy defeated Keith to move on to the second round of the 2A state playoffs, where they will face a tough Reeltown team.

ACA quarterback, Matt Sandlin passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Patriots.

Pickens County: Pickens County has flexed their muscle as of late, and they advanced to the second round of the state playoffs with a 27-14 win over Goshen. Deon Collier rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns to lead Pickens County.

The Tanner Rattlers will get their first test of the season as Lamar County will travel to Limestone County next week to see how they match up with the Rattlers of Tanner High School.

Walker High School held on for a victory over McAdory High School as Lamar Steward led the way on offense. What is the Vikings reward for defeating McAdory? A meeting with what many consider the top team in class 5A, Central-Tuscaloosa.

Woodland defeated Gerldine 26-20 in first round action only to have to face an undefeated Clay County, again. Clay County defeated Woodland 27-7 earlier in the season.
