Coach Keith Etheredge talks about Sylvania

Coach Keith Etheredge has himself one of the finest teams in the state this season, and he and the Green Wave continue to roll along unchallenged to this point of the season. Leeds has scored 445 points this season, while limiting their opponent to only 26 points through 11 games. spoke with Coach Keith Etheredge Wednesday evening, and he was kind enough to share his thoughts on this week's second round playoff game with Sylvania.

"They have a very good running back, and he is having a great season," Coach Keith Etheredge said from his home in Leeds, (Ala.).

"Sylvania is on a five-game winning streak, and they will be looking to make it six this weekend. They are playing very well."

Coach Etheredge was quick to praise this week's opponent, and he also had some high praise for his team and their accomplishment this season.

"Randon Carnathan, Tony Threatt, Zach Elkins, and Deadrick Forsyth are all playing real well for us right now. Really, all our kids are playing great," Etheredge noted.

"Rush Perkins (QB) is playing great right now. We knew he had the ability to play well, but he has come over and played well for us from the beginning."

"He played linebacker for us last year, but he is one of those 1,000 and 1,000 kids. He has passed for over a 1,000 yards, and he has rushed for over a 1,000 yards this season."

"Our guys up front are doing a great job, Carnathan and Anthony Hulitt are playing very well. Anthony (6-6, 295-pounds) has a couple of scholarship offers from Murray State and Alabama State. We think he might have a few more before it's all said and done."

"Robert Watts plays corner and wide receiver for us, and he is having an unbelievable year. He probably has the best hips and feet of anybody I've ever coached."

"We also realize that while we are playing well we have to take it one game at a time. Sylvania is a good team, and they're very well coached. They will be ready to go Friday night."

Leeds, the No. 1 seed in Class 3A, Region 5, will host Sylvania, the No. 2 seed from Class 3A, Region 6. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM Friday night.
