Sulligent versus Tanner

The Tanner Rattlers have been a strong rushing team for the past four years, and only one thing has changed, they have gotten better. The Rattlers will go up against another strong team in the Northern division of Class 2A this Friday as they face the Sulligent Blue Devils. Coach Dwight Bowling shares his thoughts about his Blue Devils upcoming contest.

The Blue Devils' defense will need to be ready for the Tanner rushing attack led by Tre Cosby, as the Rattlers are undefeated after 12 games.

"Tanner is an excellent team, they are a big team, and they are a physical running team. We have had a few problems with those type teams this year, but I think we are playing much better on defense than we were earlier in the season," Coach Dwight Bowling said from his home in Sulligent, Ala.

"We made some changes after the Winston County game in regular season, and we believe that has helped us out on defense."

The Sulligent offense has been able to produce plenty of points in their 10 wins this season, with their lowest output coming last week with a 39-15 victory over the Winston County Yellow Jackets.

The Blue Devils were able to avenge a loss suffered earlier in the season, which catapulted them into the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

"Our offense has been playing well recently. We have scored no less than 39 points in any of the games we won this season," Coach Bowling stated.

"Caleb Massey has been playing well for us, and so has Domonique [Bonman] and Steven Stewart. Steven was injured at the end of our season. He missed the opening round of the playoffs, but he is playing well for us right now."

"Steven is only a sophomore, but he makes a lot of plays for us. He had an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last week – he's just playing well right now," Coach Bowling reiterated.

Coach Bowling also discussed the keys to this week's game.

"I believe it will come down to turnovers. We need to take care of the ball, and we need to play well on defense. We have to slow down that rushing attack of theirs to be able to win the game," Coach Bowling concluded.
