Brooks Johnson taking in Memphis

Brooks Johnson is a 6-3, 235-pound tight end from Decatur, (Ala.), and he has been committed to Memphis since early August. ScoutSouth.com caught up with Johnson earlier this week and he was kind enough to give us the latest news concerning his verbal pledge.

"I am still committed," Brooks Johnson told ScoutSouth.com from his home in Decatur, (Ala.).

"I haven't talked to any other schools since I committed to Memphis. I am as solid as it gets."

Johnson has taken two unofficial visits to Memphis since his commitment, and he has two more planned.

"I went up and watched the Rice game, and the Arkansas State game. I really enjoyed it up there. I like everything about Memphis. They had a good crowd, which was great to see. It's nice to have that many people come out to watch you play each week," Johnson said.

Johnson plans to return to Memphis for the final two games of the season.

"I am going to the UCF game, and the Tulane game. Hopefully we will win both of those games and make it to a good bowl game this season. We are 5-5 right now, so we need at least one, but two would be better."

"I usually talk to a coach every week. It is usually Coach Helton. He mainly just checks in with me to make sure everything is going well for me. He is a good guy."

Johnson helped his team to a 7-5 record and an appearance in the opening round of the Alabama Class 6A state playoffs before they were defeated by Gadsden City.

Johnson put up solid numbers in the passing game.

"I had 34 catches for 320 yards and three touchdowns this season," Johnson noted.
