Super 6 Previews

It's championship week for all classifications with all games played in Birmingham at Legion Field. Previews of all teams looking for a state title. See the list of stations to listen to the games and watch all games Live.

Class 1A: Sweet Water (13-1) vs. Speake (12-2) Friday, Dec. 5, 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs enter the 2008 finals having won the last two state titles and three out of the last four. With their only loss coming to undefeated Leroy, Sweet Water is a heavy favorite to win once again led by a strong offense that scores almost 50 a game, and a stingy defense that allows just 7.2 ppg.

Johnny Lockett, super soph Chris Landrum and speedy Antonio Landrum give the Bulldogs firepower on offense. Speake is led by talented lineman K.C. Orr as well as running back Dez Polk.

Class 2A: Sulligent (12-2) vs. Leroy (14-0), Saturday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m.
Strong-armed senior quarterback Clint Moseley is looking for state championship number five when the Bears take on Sulligent at Legion Field. With 52 combined rushing and passing touchdowns this season, Moseley will square off with talented athlete Caleb Massey for Sulligent, the best player nobody knows about. Michael Bracy is also a player to watch for Leroy. With over 1,000 yards on the ground, Bracy's abilities make it tough to focus on Moseley.

Class 3A: Leeds (14-0) vs. Cordova (11-3), Thursday, Dec. 4, 3 p.m.
This is the ultimate battle of offense versus defense as Leeds comes in allowing just 3.2 points per game while Cordova, led by Tim Simon and Ryan Smith, score just over 40 per contest.

With Randon Carnathon disrupting plays up front and Tony Threatt making plays from his safety spot, the Green Wave had nine shutouts this season and 13 points to St. Clair County was the most they allowed in any one game this season. Cordova has scored 40 or more in eight of its last nine games, including all four playoff wins.

Class 4A: Cherokee County (14-0) vs. UMS Wright (12-2), Thursday, Dec. 4, 7 p.m.
QB Coty Blanchard's emergence as a legitimate threat for the Warriors has them riding high heading into a battle with the powerhouse Mobile program coached by Terry Curtis. Averaging nearly 38 points per game, Cherokee County had wins over big-time programs such as Piedmont, Alexandria and Oneonta this season. After a solid regular season, UMS has been stellar in the playoffs, outscoring opponents 157-41 in four games.

Class 5A: Vigor (14-0) vs. Russellville (13-1), Friday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m.
Powerful backs Kendall Houston and Jalston Fowler and massive offensive tackle Quinterrius Eatmon lead a strong Wolves' attack as they head into the playoffs averaging 37.6 points per game.

They may need all of them against a Russellville team averaging 32 per game behind quarterback Joey Howe and running back Brent Calloway. Howe has thrown for 2,325 yards and 21 scores while Calloway has added 1,442 and 22 scores on the ground.

Class 6A: Prattville (12-1) vs. Hoover (13-1), Saturday, Dec. 6, 3 p.m.
The two powerhouse programs of the last decade meet to resume what has been the rivalry of all rivalries in Class 6A with the last six state championships won by these two programs. Jerodis Williams has rushed for 1,063 yards in limited action because of Prattville's early success in games. He has scored 14 touchdowns.

Defense is the story for the Lions though as Alex Page leads the way with 15 sacks while Octavius Gilbert has 112 tackles and six sacks. Safety Zach Brownell and linebacker L'Angelo Albright add more firepower on defense for the Lions.

In his first season at Hoover after leading Oneonta to a state championship in 2004, Josh Niblett has the Bucs back in the title game behind a strong defense led by secondary stalwarts Brian Jackson and Patrick Miller. Offensively quarterback Simon Propst and receivers Josh Magee and Maudrecus Humphrey should challenge Class 6A's top defense.
