ScoutSouth.com: Boaz's Drew Phillips

Drew Phillips is a 6-1, 190-pound running back for the Boaz Pirates, and he turned in a huge junior season. College recruiters have taken notice, and Phillips is beginning to receive interest from schools around the South.

Phillips helped the Pirates to an 8-4 record and a trip to the second round of the Alabama Class 5A state playoffs before suffering a defeat by one of the powers in 5A, Hartselle.

ScoutSouth.com caught up with Drew Phillips at his home in Boaz, (Ala.), and he discussed the colleges showing interest.

"I have been receiving some interest from Alabama, Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Montana State, UNA, and Troy," Phillips stated.

"I haven't really talked to anyone yet other than UNA. They are talking to me a lot."

Phillips finished his junior season with 2,196 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns on 317 carries. That's an average of 7.2 yards-per-carry. Phillips destroyed his single season rushing record of 1,533 yards set as a sophomore at Boaz High School.

ScoutSouth.com asked Phillips about the strengths and weaknesses of his game.

"I think my strengths are my vision, speed, and my elusiveness. I can make good cuts once I get past the second level," he noted.

"I would have to say my weakness is my size and my strength. I need to get stronger and gain 10, good pounds," Phillips stated.
