ScoutSouth.com: Drew Phillips

Drew Phillips blistered opposing defenses in 2008, and he is looking forward to another great season in 2009. Phillips has earned the interest of three SEC schools, and more are expected to fall in line soon.

Drew Phillips had a career in 2008 rushing for 2,200 yards in Alabama's Class 5A, at Boaz High School. Phillips' senior season should cement his dream of playing college football.

Phillips is also seeing his recruitment take flight right before his eyes. He tells ScoutSouth.com the latest developments in his recruitment.

"A coach from Vanderbilt came by the school January 29th, got some film, and talked to Coach Noles about me," Phillips told ScoutSouth.com from his home in Boaz, Ala.

"Alabama and Ole Miss have also talked to Coach Noles. Alabama wants me to come to their camp to be evaluated by their staff, and Ole Miss just got all my information from Coach Noles. I haven't heard anything from them, yet. Some coaches from UNA have also been asking my coach about me."

Football is clearly the path that will lead Phillips down the road he wants to travel, and he also enjoys playing basketball. He will lead the Pirates over to Fort Payne for the sub-regionals Friday.

"We lost in the finals of our Region tournament," Phillips recalled. "Southside (Gadsden) beat us, but I had a pretty good scoring game. I had 20 of our 42 points in the game. It was disappointing to lose in the finals."

Phillips is playing basketball, but he is never far away from the weight room.

"I am playing basketball and working out. I didn't want to stop working out during basketball season, so I make time to get to the weight room," Phillips explained.

"I am going to work hard over the summer. I am going to attend the camp at Alabama, and I have been invited to participate in an Under Armor Combine later this spring. I would like to make it to some other camps and combines as well," Phillips concluded.
