ScoutSouth.com: Zach Underwood

Zach Underwood is a 6-4, 270-pound center from Albertville, Ala., and he is starting to catch the eye of recruiters around the country. Underwood tells ScoutSouth.com about the schools showing interest in his ability at the next level.

"Coach Reese, my offensive line coach, has taken a couple of calls from coaches this week. They want to get my film and my transcripts," Zach Underwood told ScoutSouth.com.

"I don't know all the details, but he (Coach Reese) told me North Carolina, Vanderbilt and North Dakota State have called this week."

"Vanderbilt wanted to know why I wasn't on anyone's list, and they said I was someone they wanted to start pursuing from here on out."

Coach Reese discussed more of Underwood's abilities.

"Zach has great feet," he said. "He keeps his feet under him, and he finishes blocks very well. Once he gets on a guy he takes him out of the play."

"He is 6-4, 270-pounds, but he could be 300-pounds without any problem. He hasn't filled out his big frame at this stage. His work ethic is excellent, and he continues to get stronger each week."

"Zach is a player you can push. The harder you push him the harder he plays. He has a good motor."

"The coach at North Dakota said Zach would be the best center in the state if he were up there."

One former high school coach said of Underwood, "He is probably the best center in North Alabama. At least I haven't seen one any better. He is probably one of the better centers in the state."

Underwood reports a 300-pound bench, 475-pound squat, and he cleans 275-pounds.

Underwood also reports a 3.725 GPA, with plans to take his ACT for the first time in April.
