Drew Phillips hitting combines

Drew Phillips holds scholarship offers from BYU and Wyoming, and he is receiving interest from around the country. Two new schools have started the recruiting process, and one has been Phillips' favorite football program since he was a child. He explains in this latest interview with ScoutSouth.com

Drew Phillips freely admits growing up a fan of the Michigan Wolverines, so the newest school to show interest in Phillips is a special one.

"I received a handwritten letter from Coach Rich Rodriguez of Michigan. He said he had watched my film, and he appreciated my interest in Michigan. He said he looked forward to seeing me play this fall. He also invited me to attend camp at Michigan," Phillips exclaimed.

"I also received a letter from Illinois asking me to come to camp there. They liked my film, and they want to see me in person."

Phillips traveled to Atlanta for a national combine last Saturday, and the results were favorable.

"I finished in the top 10 percent on the national board," Phillips said.

"I had a vertical of 34 inches, I threw the power ball 38 feet, and I ran a 4.58 40-yard dash. I was disappointed in my 40-time, but we were on field turf. It felt like I was on sand. It was a soft surface."

"When I ran my first 40 a guy stepped into my lane while I was running, so I had to run it again. I slipped on the start, and I ended up with a bad time."

"I have been invited back to an elite combine over at Athens Georgia, and I am looking forward to it. Hopefully I will have a better time over there."

"There were more than 1,200 players at the Atlanta combine. I saw a lot of great athletes while I was there, but I think I did pretty well."

BYU and Wyoming are continuing their recruitment of Phillips.

"I have talked to the coaches at BYU every week since the offer. I talked to them earlier today, and I am supposed to call the coaches at Wyoming in a little while. Both teams are recruiting me very hard," Phillips concluded.
