Preston Hatcher taking visits

Preston Hatcher, a 280-pound offensive lineman from Northview High School in Dothan, Ala., is receiving interest from programs around the south. Hatcher recently took unofficial visits to UAB and Georgia Tech. He discussed his recruitment with in this latest interview.

Preston Hatcher has been having an up-and-down spring since head coach Chip Harris suddenly left Northview High School after the beginning of 2009. However, the big offensive lineman is going about business as usual.

"I have been working hard in the weight room and taking some unofficial visits," Hatcher told

"I recently visited UAB and Georgia Tech. Both visits were really good."

"I went to UAB, and I got to tour all the facilities. The weight room is only a year old, and it was very nice. It was about as nice as any other I have been in. I also got to see the training room, which is also new."

"After I got to see everything I met with Coach Calloway, Coach Summers and Coach Friend with my family. It was a very good meeting. We got to talk to them about 35 – 40 minutes. They were telling me what was expected of me as a student and all that."

"After our meeting I sat in on an offensive line meeting, and I got to meet some of the guys. We then went out and watched the scrimmage for a while."

"I came away liking UAB a lot better than I did before I took the visit. After meeting the players and the coaches I feel good about UAB."

Hatcher discussed the Yellow Jackets.

"I went over to Georgia Tech, and I enjoyed the trip. I didn't feel like Georgia Tech was all that interested in me until I visited," said Hatcher.

"When I arrived, I signed in, watched scrimmage and talked to coach Kelly. He told me to hang around because the offensive line coach (Todd Spencer) wanted to meet me. I waited to meet him, and he came in and talked to me for a while. He told me I was exactly the kind of linemen they recruited last year to run their system. He said they liked me and wanted to see me in camp."

"He knew everything about me, which surprised me. I left Georgia Tech realizing they were recruiting me harder than I had first thought."

Hatcher had plans to take in the annual A-Day game at Auburn University this past weekend.

Northview High School will begin spring practice May 4th.
