Underwood picking up steam

Zach Underwood has anchored the Albertville offensive line since he was a sophomore, and the big center prospect has earned the attention of college recruiters around the South. He tells the latest in this interview.

Zach Underwood is a 6-4, 275-pound center from Albertville Ala., and he has seen his recruitment start to take shape during spring practice.

"I have had some coaches come by practice and talk to Coach Poole about me," Underwood noted.

"Coach Aaron Hutsel from Murray State came by today. They liked my ACT score (23). I'm not sure what he told Coach Poole because I didn't talk to him after practice today."

"Coach Richard Shaughnessy came by. Troy really liked my film. He said they wanted me to come to camp. They liked to see linemen in camp, and they would offer on the spot if they liked what they saw."

"The defensive line coach from Arkansas State came by, and he said they liked me and wanted me and T.J Pams to camp there. I think we are going to go to Arkansas State's camp and swing back by Vanderbilt in the same week.

"Auburn has started recruiting me too. They started off sending me mail, but they have now said they are going to come by the school sometime this month. They told me they wanted to meet me and evaluate me more over the summer."

"Coach Carter Cardwell from Tennessee- Chattanooga came by the school and picked up my transcripts. He liked my grades and my film, and he wants me to come up there for a visit at some point."

"I am still focused on Vanderbilt right now. I think I need to go up to their camp and show out while I'm there. I really like the education at Vanderbilt."

"I have also started getting some attention from Middle Tennessee recently, but I don't know how serious they are at this point."

"I have been getting a ton of stuff from small schools all over the country. I have gotten mail and invitations to visit schools I have never heard of."

"I am going to camps at Arkansas State, Vanderbilt and Alabama. I know I am going to those. I would like to go to some of the others, but I'm not sure what I will be able to do."

Zach Underwood has a 3.725 GPA, and a 23 ACT. He plans to take the ACT for the second time this summer.
