BIG NEWS: Matt Sandlin transferring

Matt Sandlin, who was at the helm of the dynamic passing attack at American Christian in Tuscaloosa, Ala., will wear a new jersey this fall at Tuscaloosa County High School.


Tuscaloosa County High is under the direction of new head coach Lee Gibson. The Wildcats (11-1) were ranked No. 2 in class 6A in 2008 and reached No. 24 in the nation by USA Today Super 25 rankings.

Matt Sandlin completed 174-of-260 passes for 3,309 yards scoring 29 touchdowns with only five interceptions and rushed for 191 yards on 29 carries with five touchdowns averaging 6.59 yard a carry.

Sandlin led the Patriots (10-2) to the No. 1 passing offense in the state of Alabama, and the No. 8 passing offense in the nation in 2008.

Sandlin ranked No. 7 in passing yards and top 20 in total offense as a junior. Sandlin earned All-State honorable mention as a junior behind Mr. Football and Auburn commitment Clint Moseley.

Sandlin was a finalist for the Friday Night Blitz Player of Alabama, ScoutSouth.com Star of Alabama six times, Athlete's Foot Athlete of the Week, named West Alabama (Tuscaloosa News) All-Star and Alabama Sports Writer Association (ASWA) first team All-State Quarterback honorable mention during his junior season. He was awarded the team's offensive MVP player of the year.

Sandlin has received a scholarship offer from Marshall and is hearing from LSU, Arkansas, Alabama, UCLA, Missouri, North Carolina, Louisville, Iowa, Clemson, Rutgers, Arizona, Illinois and Northwestern.
