Teammates commit

Calvin Jenkins and Rodney Thomas, from Auburn, Ala., have decided to stay together at the next level. The quarterback and defensive tackle talked about their commitment to the Jaguars.

"I committed to South Alabama a couple of nights ago," said Calvin Jenkins. "I basically felt like I was at home whenever I was down there. It's a new program. They are not going to be a push over. The coaches are taking care of the players down there."

"There is a lot of love down there. I felt like it was the place I should be. My recruiting coach was [Greg] Gregory. I have been knowing him for a while. He laid everything out on the table for me. They want me to come down there and play quarterback."

Jenkins talked about playing quarterback on the next level and the possibility of visiting other schools.

"I think I'll fit in just perfect," he said. "They have coach Gregory. He was at South Florida. They ran a good spread offense. I am used to it. They need someone who is mobile and can throw. I think it's a good position for me."

"I am still waiting a little bit. They [USA coaches] said if any bigger schools come they told me to take the chance. I am kind of shutting things down. I am trying to focus right now on the upcoming season."

It's always nice to take along a teammate to help with the transition from high school to college.

"Rodney and I are very close," Jenkins said. "I think us being down there together is like family. We have Richard [Ross] and Brandon [Ross] down there. We are going to go down there and make a difference. We are making a difference at Auburn High School and continue when we get there."

Thomas talked about his commitment as well.

"South Alabama definitely had my major," he said. "I plan on majoring in Pharmacy. I feel like they are going to have a bright future."

"I went down for an unofficial visit. I went down there during the summer. I really liked it down there. Plus, I have Richard and Brandon down there. I felt real comfortable."

"They recruited me to play defensive tackle. I am 6-foot-1, 280-pounds. I am hoping to get a little bit bigger. My footwork is my biggest strength. I am trying to improve my hand placement."
