Commitment Tracker: Demont Buice

Demont Buice came into recruiters' view back in 2007 when he rushed for 2,263 yards on 196 carries. One game netted eight touchdowns and 338 yards. He was the only sophomore finalist for Mr. Football that year.

With a frustrating injury-riddled 2008 season behind him he made his decision to commit to Clemson over SEC schools like Kentucky and Ole Miss.

Gaston Coach Swane Morris will attempt a run at the 1A State Championship this season. The Bulldogs have lost a lot of talent to graduation, and they will depend on freshman quarterback Jordan McCartney who makes up for some strength issues with his accuracy.

Buice has been on the forefront of stardom since early in his career, but with his decision behind him, this could be his best year and Gaston's most productive.

By the numbers: Buice has rushed for 4,013 yards in two seasons (limited play last season) on 373 carries for an average of 10.75 yards per carry. He has scored 72 touchdowns and named All-State First Team as a sophomore and junior. He was named 1A Back of the Year in both seasons.

Gaston will host 3A Sardis Friday night at Bulldog Field at 7PM. The team's most important game will probably come against Cedar Bluff in the eighth week, October 16.
