NJHS vs. Scottsboro Recap

They call it a rivalry because the schools are close together, but history shows that it is pretty one-sided. North Jackson defeated Scottsboro 47-24 Friday night at Trammel Stadium in Scottsboro, marking the Chiefs' 6th straight win over the Wildcats and the 17th in the past 22 seasons.

North Jackson's Will Richard threw five touchdown passes in the game as the Chiefs opened the season on the road in impressive fashion. The senior set a new school record with the five TDs, breaking the record of four he set last season.

Montel Hale caught four of Richard's passes and scored three touchdowns, and Kahne Cooper caught three passes including a 49 yard scoring bomb from Richard.

Cord Wordlaw added two touchdowns on the ground in the third quarter of the game. Jovani Taylor had the other TD on a 25 yard pass reception and also scored a two-point conversion for the Chiefs.

North Jackson racked up 204 yards rushing to go with 177 yards in the air as the Chiefs totally dominated the Wildcats. The North Jackson defense, led by Johnathan Davis and Brandon Smith, gave up six points early, but didn't allow another score until the fourth quarter when the Chiefs held a 47-6 lead.

North Jackson will open the 2009 Region 7 schedule at home against Priceville next Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM at R.D. Hicks Stadium in Stevenson.
