Stars of Alabama 1A-3A

This week's Player of the Week comes from the 1A-3A ranks. The 'Stars of Alabama' for week six of the 2009 season.

This week's player of the week is Deion Curry, the 5-11 ,150-pound junior quarterback/defensive back from Pickens County High School.

The Tornadoes continued their utter domination of opponents with a resounding 52-6 win over Isabella last week. Curry completed 10-of-15 pass attempts for 336 yards and five scores, all more than 45 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown on an 80-yard run. The junior returned an interception for a touchdown on defense.

Pickens County will look to draw it's next blood from region rival American Christian at home this week.

Jaice Hampton
6-0, 175 pounds

Winston County High School

Johnson rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns in the huge 34-14 win over Sulligent last week.

Hampton stole the show on defense with three interceptions, one returned for a 25-yard touchdown. The senior scored twice more on offense, by reception and rushing.

Winston County hosts Cleveland in this week's region game.

Luke Miller
6-2, 210 pounds
Senior Linebacker
Wicksburg High School

Miller did just about everything he could to help his team defeat Dale County 14-6. The senior had 17 tackles, blocked an extra point and a punt, caused and recovered a fumble.

Wicksburg has won two of their last three and travel to Abbeville this week.

Desmond Warren
6-1, 200 pounds
Senior Quarterback
Houston County High School

UAB may get some competition for Warren's signature if he continues to play like he has the first six games of the season. The senior completed 20-of-23 pass attempts for 297 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 60 yards and scored three more touchdowns in a 47-0 win over Samson.

Houston County hosts G.W. Long this week.

Craig Sanders
6-4, 235 pounds

Ariton High School

The senior rushed for 278 yards on 33 carries scoring three touchdowns. He also had eight tackles on defense in the 35-32 win over Kinston.

Richard Cooks
6-3, 210 pounds
Senior Wide Receiver
Elba High School

Cooks had a huge night in his team's 52-14 win over New Brockton to remain undefeated. He intercepted three passes, caught a 37-yard touchdown, kicked a 31-yard field goal and was a perfect seven for seven on PATs.

Elba has a huge game this week as they face undefeated Houston Academy on the road.

Jordan Grimmer
5-11, 165 pounds
Senior Wide Receiver
Victory Christian School

Grimmer caught 10 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns of 10 and 65 yards in the 27-23 win over Appalachian.

Victory Christian hosts Parkway Christian this week.

Jacob Williams
5-6, 150 pounds

Trent Williams
5-10, 160 pounds

Phillips, Bear Creek, High School

The younger Williams caught 12 of the elder Williams' passes for 223 yards including a 74 yard touchdown.

The senior quarterback completed 17-of-26 pass attempts for 277 yards and two touchdowns in the 30-0 win over Vina.

Phillips faces a stern test this week when they put their 5-0 record on the line against 5-1 Hubbard at home.

Shon McElrath
5-9, 155 pounds
Freshman Running Back
Colllinsville High School

McElrath rushed for 186 yards on 11 carries scoring twice. He also caught a 50-yard touchdown pass in a huge win over 1A power Cedar Bluff 28-20.

Collinsville will take their three-game win steak on the road this week to face Gaylesville.

Jacob Mayfield
6-0, 195 pounds
Junior Quarterback
Westbrook Christian School

Mayfield completed eight of 15 pass attempts for 179 yards and five scores. He rushed for another 106 yards on 21 carries in the win over Geraldine, 45-29.

This week is a battle of the 5-1 teams as Westbrook Christian hosts Fyffe. This is a huge game with playoff seeding on the line. Fyffe leads the region with their loss coming in out-of-region play while Westbrook lost to Ider early in the season.

Rex Culpepper
5-10, 160 pounds
Sophomore Defensive Back
Ider High School

Culpepper had two interceptions, two pass break-ups, and nine tackles in the 20-7 win over Sand Rock.

Ider will take to the road this week to face Coach Hayden Stockton's West End, Walnut Grove.

Andrew Dauphin
5-11, 175 pounds
Senior Linebacker/Running Back
Houston Academy

Dauphin had 26 carries for 236 yards in the team's 24-0 win over Cottonwood.

Houston Academy will host Elba this week, both teams undefeated.

Zack Blythe,
5-10, 175 pounds, Senior Linebacker, Appalachian High School - 10 tackles with two for a loss in the 27-23 loss to the one-loss Victory Christian.

Dedrick Forsythe,
6-0, 180 pounds, Junior Running Back, Leeds High School - rushed for 180 yards on 14 carries scoring a touchdown in a 49-18 win over Pleasant Valley.

Austin Grammer,
6-1, 180 pounds, Sophomore Quarterback, American Christian Academy - completed 15-of-28 pass attempts for 240 yards and three touchdowns in the 32-21 win over Hale County.

Parker Barrineau,
6-1, 175 pounds, Sophomore Wide Receiver caught seven passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Hale County.
