Blake Dees has clear favorite

Blake Dees, outside linebacker from Spanish Fort, Ala., projects to rank as one of the top in-state recruits for the class of 2011. He is receiving early interest from schools across the region and taken several unofficial visits. He talked about his season and the situation on how his team hopes to receive a berth in the playoffs.

"Our season has been really good," said Blake Dees. "We are 7-2 right now. We will probably be 8-2 after this week. We have a five-way tie in our region right now. It has never happened in the state before. The tie is between us, Vigor, Gulf Shores, LeFlore and St. Paul's.

"What will determine if we get in the play-offs is if Vigor beats Blount this week. If they win, we are in. If they lose, we don't go. I have had a good season so far. I had three games with over 10 tackles. I am playing 'Sam' linebacker."

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound prospect is hearing from several different programs.

"I do not have any offers," he said. "I am receiving interest from Auburn, Alabama, Southern Miss and Florida State. Alabama has been showing the most interest. I have been to Southern Miss, Auburn and two Alabama games this season. I plan to return to Alabama next week for the LSU game."

Dees attended the Alabama-Tennessee game this past weekend. He also attended the Tide's home game against Arkansas.

"The visit to Alabama was really good," Dees said. "They treat you right down there. I love their stadium. I got to go in the locker room after the game. It was really good. The game was scary. I thought we were going to lose, but big Cody came through. The stadium went crazy.

"I got to go in the locker room after the game. I talked to coach [James] Willis. He was talking about their recruiting class and how they were trying to finish with a few guys before they started offering juniors. He said hopefully they would be giving me an offer."

The Tide sits in the driver's seat for the south Alabama prospect.

"Alabama is definitely my favorite," Dees said. "I have been an Alabama fan since I was little. I have always wanted to go there. They are showing the most attention towards me right now. I think coach Saban is a very good coach. I like their locker room and everything they have up there."

Dees talked about the other schools where he has visited this fall as well.

"The visit to Southern Miss was good," he stated. "There wasn't too much going on. I didn't get to meet any of the coaches. They gave us tickets and told us where to sit. It was a good game though. I like how their campus is close together. I like their stadium.

"Auburn was a good visit. I haven't seen their locker room. We ate before the game, and they fed us at halftime. It was good to go down on the field. I like Auburn, but Alabama is still up there at the top."

Dees talked about his strengths and areas of improvement.

"I feel like I'm a strong tackler," he said. "I can get off blocks. I would like to improve my speed and pass coverage."
