Not fully understanding why District Athletic Directors like Steve Hogen from Mesa would want to go back to regions where all sister schools play & beat up on each other, then maybe two go to the playoffs instead of the four Mesa Schools had in past years. Is it the norm or is Hogen stuck on stupid and the old traditional ways where Mtn. View and Red Mtn (His two favorite schools) are the only schools from Mesa that go to the playoffs
Really disappointed that they were so short sighted that they would be willing to go back to the status quo instead of working to develop a system that helps improve competition. The formula that they used for this year wasn't perfect by any means, but I sincerely believe it was a step in the right direction and it's a pity they decided to take two steps back just to prove a point to the AIA.
I think you will see all the ghetto schools gladly petition down for all sports. Still though even in 5A they will suffer just as they would in 6A. Curious as a Nortwest side person with family playing for O'Connor how will the regions look? It is good to say "Regions" and 5A and 4A again and even the new 6A. That part I like.
6A Northwest Region scenario: O'Connor, Mt.Ridge, Boulder Creek, North Canyon, Willow Canyon and Valley Vista
5A West Valley Region: Barry Goldwater, Deer Valley, Centennial, Ironwood, Liberty, Sunrise Mountian
ASU: 5 time baseball National Champions 3 time Pac10 football champions
Long-term lurker. Signed up to ask you to to drop the "ghetto schools" crap. Those kids are making their way in the world the best they can, just like at your school. Putting labels on them doesn't accomplish anything for anybody.
Unbelievable , once again I'll say it, go coach at those "ghetto" schools, then try and make a statement like this. See those kids who can't afford to play football growing up, put on a helmet for the first time as a freshman and go out and try to compete against a sunrise mountain. (Oh who by the way petitioned down)
Agreed on Sunrise Mountain.. No offense Sunrise Mt. But you: @ Have a youth feeder team, @ What's their attendance? I bet it's within a 100 of Mt Ridge and Liberty too. Any you feel good about playing tiny poor no football schools??
Hey guys, let's beat up a bunch of 7th graders and feel good ourselves. GOOD FOR YOU! lol
