#16 Tempe at #1 Paradise Valley- Tempe lost 4 of their first 5 but then won 5 in a row. Including quality wins over Vista Grande and Arcadia. But do they have the firepower to hang with PV? The Trojans averaged 51 points per game. This is probably the most intriguing 1-16 matchup.
#9 Cibola at #8 Catalina Foothills- Cibola has losses to Sunrise and Havasu, CF lost to Desert Edge and Marana. I love these 8-9 matchups. No common opponents to compare. Toss up.
#12 Bradshaw Mountain at #5 Arcadia- Arcadia won 35-14 in week 1. Only bad loss between these 2 schools was Arcadia falling to Sunrise.
#13 Vista Grande at #4 Sunnyslope- VG's three losses are by a combines 22 points. Slope's only loss is to PV. Vista Grande has size, they must stop Slope's Jeff Goebel. This is the game I will be at. Slope has been very good over the past few years but I wouldn't be shocked if VG keeps it close or pulls an upset.
#14 Fairfax at #3 Desert Edge- Have to love the season Fairfax has put together but their schedule wasn't the toughest and the two bets teams they faced, were blow out losses. Desert Edge lost to PV as well but didn't have their QB. Their other loss is close to D1 Chaparral. Desert Edge is rolling and I wouldn't want to play them right now.
#11 Chavez at #6 Sabino- A matchup of 1 loss teams, Chavez lost to Higley and Sabino to Catalina Foothills in a rain storm. The knock on Chavez will be their strength of schedule but they have manhandled everyone they have faced. Sabino also rolled through their schedule. This is another game I wouldn't be shocked to go either way.
#10 Mingus at #7 Verrado- Two 1 loss teams face off in what I think is one of the more intriguing matchups in this division. Verrado led a very good Sabino team before the game was cancelled and their one loss is to Desert Edge. Mingus lost early to Peoria and is now on a 7 game win streak. Their defense has only given up 14 points in the last 4 games. This game is a toss up.
#15 Cactus at #2 Sunrise Mountain- I was at last week's game and Sunrise manhandled Cactus. Normally I wouldn't think Cactus has a chance tonight but Cactus has a great coaching staff, they will make adjustments and have the kids ready to play. But do they have enough to handle Chase Cord? It's almost a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation with him. Blitz him and he is athletic enough to make guys miss and find open receivers in 1on1 match ups. Drop guys into coverage and he can kill you with the run.
Favorites: PV, Sunrise, Desert Edge
Contenders: There are a bunch. If one of these top 3 get knocked off, this division is wide open.
Sleeper: If they can avenge the loss to Sunrise, this is a lower seed that could do some damage.
