Valley Vista gave Skyline all it could handle, falling 24-21.
Skyline was mistake prone early, returning the opening kickoff to the house, but with multiple illegal block penalties on the play. They then go deep on the first play (it looks like they have a total of 3 pass plays), and WR fumbles the ball back to VV. Back and forth most of the game. Middle of the 4th, Skyline tries to punt away from #20 Vodrey Gates, and they end up shanking it to the opposite field. As the ball is bouncing end over end, players are clearing away from it...ball pops up off the ground and into the hands of Gates who flew across the field to catch it in stride at full speed and he houses it from 65 yards out to put them within 3. Valley got the ball back inside a minute but couldn't move it downfield to end the game. Skyline is big, with two bookend 300 pounders on each side of the ball. Their Jet Sweep offense is solid (especially if no one will throw the flag on their crackback slot who held every time I had an angle to see him) and they are methodical in ball control and pressure defense, however I expected more from the #5 team in the state. Kind of a one trick pony, their misdirection is still effective, however, they aren't trying to fool anyone into thinking they want to pass the ball...at all.
