Watched Desert Edge last week against Palo Verde, and they are about as perfect of a high school basketball team you could get. You could maybe argue that they could have a more blazing, dominant point guard, but then again Whitehead is extremely good in his own right (exhibited a lot of athleticism in the game I saw) and will be very tough as a senior. Both Watt and Arciniega are FREAK athletes for their size; do the Scorpion lower levels have any trees like that coming up, as players with that type of skill at that size are not common.
It's a sort of hoops renaissance in the southwest valley this year, as both 4A champions will be from the Agua Fria district and the 3A champ should hail from neighboring Estrella Mountain Ranch (Estrella Foothills, who's only losses on the year are to Edge and an undefeated McClymonds High squad from Oakland). The tradition that started with the old Owl teams under the legendary O.K. Fulton and Buckeye's mid-eighties reign over small school ball lives on.
