They should also move baseball back. In most states the baseball state championships are after schools have had graduation. We start football when school is not in session, why not end baseball when school is not in session?
Check the comment section on football and then check the section on basketball -- no one cares. To start out with Arizona is a very weak state when it comes to basketball; too few schools and even fewer good quality players and coaches. Then there is the joke of press coverage by the Arizona Republic with slightly better coming from the East Valley Tribune but not much better. Then you have this joke of a governing organization call the AIA which I will not comment about too much. I think raising the ticket prices for admission was a special move on their part.......for what? Inferior refs? Higher salaries for the executive staff of the AIA? Football is the only sport anybody cares about here. If you think the attendence at basketball is low just look at baseball, soccer and volleyball. Nope, nobody but the parents of the athletics cares very much about basketball in Arizona. Way too nice in Arizona in winter to sit in a stuffy gym.
get a clue - this is a football site primarily and there are many many people commenting on bball in arizona on the site that is geared primarily to basketball (Arizona Varsity) which also has football, but much less talk on football on that site - and a bulk of that blogging on bball is from non-parents including those that started the sites - just about the same balance of parent v. coach v. neutral party commenting on that site re basketball as on here (24 7 FOOTBALL - duh) about football
and the gyms have still been packed even for the high priced playoff games - hundred plus people couldnt even get in to playoff game last night because so packed
there is also tons of coverage on bball in the press - same as for football on all the paper sites
and football and bball alike have the exact same issues with the AIA - there is no differentiation in the ticket pricing, playoff scheduling, executives, rule enforcement etc - many bad aspects that affect both sports equally
maybe next time know some facts before posting such an absurd comment
I''ve been going to sectionals and at ASU, lots of interest. The St. Mary's GIRLS brought a large crowd. Corona, Desert Vista, Brophy, Hamilton, Perry, Desert Mountain, Dobson, Gilbert, Red Mountain have all been well represented. I'm on my way to Jobing.com in about 30 minutes. I love this!
I would have given a lot to have the opportunity these kids have. But the prices are too steep. I'm helping a Chavez family pay, $6 for kids and $10 for adults is pretty steep for many families.
If you get a chance come watch a reservation school, they're playing in Prescott Valley. The whole reservation shows up.
A lot of posters are fathers of players on the football board. A whole lot fewer athletes play basketball.
The reservation schools are well represented in the girls Div 3 bracket, but in the boys Div 3 bracket there are no reservation teams. However, Holbrook will have the support of the Navajo Nation since Holbrook is a bordertown with a large Navajo student body. Go Holbrook
Oh, if you're gonna attend Friday or Saturday's game, get there early. Holbrook fans will be there early.
I have seen Corona play a few times this year and I've come to conclusion that refs call fouls on Andrus Peat for being large. He fouled out last night. you can't move him and anybody knows from physics knows that when two bodies meet the one with most mass will move the smaller body. Andrus has been listed anywhere from 305 to 317 and packs that weight on a lean frame with huge arms and legs. When players go for rebounds and are airborne, guess what happens when they collide as they always do? The refs absulutely took him out of the game, he had to play tentative and probably only had 15-20 minutes of playing time. I have seen him set picks and not move but when a player goes to ground after colliding him he gets the foul.
They ended up winning though right? Ref's have always been known to do that when a kid is bigger than everyone else, been seeing it for a while now. Pretty unfair, especially with a kid as athletic as Andrus who can avoid the contact and fouls and make good plays that are sometimes called fouls. I watched the Brophy Corona game, and actually thought CDS got a lot of calls in their favor, but it was a decently officiated game. I have to give the refs credit for what they do.
