Duncan @ Gilbert Christian could be interesting. Duncan's Merrell was limited vs St. David, but put up huge numbers against Valley Union the next week. GC looks very strong this year and Duncan will be missing a strong lineman/LB. GC should be able to put up points, but can they stop the Wildkat's POY candidate? Could be a high scoring game.
Mayer @ Salome Salome has been steam-rolling weak teams and Mayer is improved from last year. Salome should make playoffs due to schedule and Mayer may be a bubble team, so this could be a huge game for the Wildcats.
Joe City @ Superior This is a big game for JC because they've yet to win a game and may be in a fight to get in the playoffs. Superior is also win-less and beating the perennial powerhouse JC would be something that can turn their season around.
St. David @ Pima Big rivalry game between two traditional 8-man powers who both look down a bit from recent years past. SD has been making big mistakes and errors that have so far not cost them games, but they've let teams stay around, almost inviting them to win. Pima started sluggish out of the gate, but started to roll against Mesa Prep and is a team that can capitalize quickly on mistakes so this game could get ugly... or it could be a close slugfest.
Valley Lutheran @ Bagdad Unranked VL shocked the state by beating #2 Mogollon this week. Yet, VL got rolled by upstart Glendale Prep, who was beaten by Gilbert Christian. How good is VL? How good is GC? What happened to the Mustangs? Does any of that matter when playing #1 Bagdad? Can VL come up with another shocker? Outlook does not appear positive. This should be another win for the Sultans, who are loaded this year, but one has to wonder if VL can make a game of it.
Mesa Prep @ Glendale Prep in the battle of the new preps on the block. Even though we know comparative scores is an unreliable and deceptive way to compare teams who haven't played each other, we all still do it, even subconsciously. So, Glendale Prep rolled over VL, who shutout Mogollon, but GP was beaten by Gilbert Christian. Mesa Prep and GC both handled Superior easily. Mesa Prep got beat easily by Pima. So, if Mesa Prep beats Glendale Prep does that mean that Pima is better than Mogollon? heh If GP rolls MP, does that mean that GC is better than Pima and Mogollon? And if so, can GC beat Bagdad? So... in case you didn't follow all of that, I'm arguing that this MP vs GP game will have prognostic implications as to the the feasibility of anyone beating Bagdad. It all relates... it's logistics and statistics and false logic... trajectory really. You wouldn't understand. :P
Upsets happen. A team can be down one week and sharp the next. Thats what makes football great. Mogollon's season will not be defined by one loss, but VL could use this game as a springboard for a surprising season. This season is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing seasons yet. Remember when d-6 football pick-em contests made everyone look like football wizards? Every week was excruciatingly predictable. We know now that any top tier program that plays VL better bring their A game. Joe City almost showed St David the same thing Friday night. All I know is that if the season follows the same pattern as the first two weeks, this one is gonna be a doozy!
