The bracket is out and includes some interesting matchups.
Top of bracket:
#9 Salome vs. #8 Valley Lutheran (at GCHS) - winner at #1 Pima
#12 Joseph City at #5 Mogollon - winner at #4 St David
Bottom of bracket:
#11 Mesa Prep at #6 Glendale Prep - winner at #3 Bagdad
#10 Duncan at #7 Ray - winner at #2 Gilbert Christian
Three of the four games this week are rematches from earlier in the season.
In week three, in a non-section matchup Glendale Prep won at home against Mesa Prep 57-28. This game will also be at Glendale Prep. Can Mesa Prep close the gap?
In week four, Mogollon went to Joseph City and had a nice bus ride home after winning 34-6. This one will be in Heber. Has anything changed since last time to think that JC has a chance?
Last week, Ray went to Duncan and squeaked out a 14-6 win. One week later they will be at it again only this time in Kearny. Will the home field give Ray an easier win this time?
Pima plays the winner of Valley Lutheran and Salome the following week in Pima. Guess who the last two teams to play in Pima in a playoff game were? Valley Lutheran in 2011 and Salome last year. Gilbert Christian will get a rematch of earlier this season in the quarterfinals if Duncan upsets Ray. They played earlier in the season with GC going away in the 2nd half. If JC were to pull a big upset, they would go to St David where coach Bryant would face one of his former teams in a rematch from early in the season where SD defeated JC 60-54. However Mogollon may have something to say about that!
This looks like there could be some very entertaining matchups in these first two rounds. Any thoughts or predictions?
