Bagdad's offensive and defensive front is the best I have seen at this level. Just physically dominating and nasty. Linebacker core is top notch as well. Throw in athletes in the defensive backfield like Loveall and you have a defense that is very tough to move the ball against.
Offensively, they probably could just line up in the I formation and all game and still score every time they have the ball. But the fact that they can spread you out, and beat you with their athletes makes them all the more dangerous on offense.
If they play well from here on out, they will win it all. Only a team like Pima or Mogollon has a shot. And that would be with a ton of breaks. Not out of the realm of possibility with turnovers and all of the other unpredictable things that can happen in a football game. Crazier things have happened.
No question Bagdad is stacked, they are an all around fundamentally sound team, I don't think any of their offensive or defensive starters are "average" they are a very good team.
That being said I think the best matchup for them is a team similar to them, a smash mouth, hard hitting team with size.. I don't think a city team can hang with them as shown thus far (no offensive to any city team left) *cough cough GC..
Mogollon- very tough team with some size and won't back down.. I think their defense has the potential to slow Bagdad down but not stop them.. Offensively Despain is arguably the best back in the state (top 3 undoubtedly) so they can put points up on Bagdad.. If they can pass the ball a bit so Bagdad won't load up for run they could give the Sultans a game. Not convinced they can stop the Sultans spread offense.
St. David- big in size and would match up pretty good against Bagdad physically.. I think their defense can force some punts and possibly turnovers but I don't think their offense can handle Bagdads defense enough to keep the game close for more than 2 quarters
Pima- probably the best challenge for the sultans, big and tough on defense with a very good group of runningbacks led by #28, and a QB who is more than man enough for the tasks, I think they can score points but I'm not sure if Pimas Db's can slow down Loveall and Low. I think this would be a pretty close game
I've had the opportunity to play with these boys, and let me tell ya the only thing that can stop them is themselves....also they tend to point fingers when the going gets tough...maybe someone will beat Bagdad, but that's only if Bagdad but beats itself.
