On the surface Week 4 does not seem to have much intrigue. I am sure the consensus is that the top tier teams, GC, Bagdad, Pima (and I will even put Mogollon and Superior in this category for the time being), will be victorious tonight. Truth be told I am sure we all wouldn't mind skipping this week and fast forwarding to next weeks match-up between Bagdad and Pima at Gilbert Christian High School! But with that said, all in due time. This week does offer some interesting match-ups that will go a long way in determining who gets invited to the dance and who stays home not to mention seeding.
Glendale Prep 4-0 @ Valley Union 3-0
Aside from their shaky first half against Chandler Prep, As expected Glendale Prep has dominated their opponents thus far. Glendale Prep has three straight games in which they will be severely tested: Valley Union, Bagdad, and Valley Lutheran. An upset of Valley Union (not where my money is) could see them finish the second half of the season 3-1 or 2-2. Though a 1-3 finish still gets them in the playoffs. But it won't bode well for their momentum or confidence.
Valley Union has equally dominated their opponents. If they do the same to Glendale Prep then I think we can begin to consider them as a legitimate top 5 team. But let's not forget they play Pima at home in two weeks. That will be the true pretender or contender litmus test.
Mayer 2-1 @ Joe City 2-2
Mayer and Joe City play the exact same teams (on different weeks of course...doubt I need to clarify that) to finish the season. Winner of this game will have the inside track at getting in the playoffs! I would argue that Mayer needs this game more that Joe City due to the fact that Joe City plays 9 games this season to Mayer's 8. Not sure how that extra game works but it always seems to be a power point factor.
Ajo 2-1 @ Gila Bend 0-2
Ajo needs to finish the remainder of their season no worse than 3-2 to make it in.
Hayden 1-2 @ Chandler Prep 2-2
I only mention this game because Chandler Prep has an opportunity to go 3-1 to finish the season. They cannot afford a let down here. 5-3 gets them in...I doubt 4-4 does?
