16 Winslow @ 1 Yuma Catholic: The Shamrocks of Yuma Catholic look to extend their 28 game win streak against a scrappy Winslow team. Winslow is balanced offensively and has played quality competition, but Yuma Catholic has looked exceptionally dominant in their first year playing at the division 4 level.
9 Flowing Wells @ 8 Northwest Christian: What happens when an unstoppable force (Flowing Wells’ 3,500 yard rushing attack) led by Dionte Flores, meets an immovable object (Northwest Christian defense) that has racked up 12 interceptions and 26 sacks? A great match up between two dark horses in division 4. It is a crime that the winner of this game must face the winner of the Yuma Catholic vs Winslow game.
12 Dysart @ 5 Snowflake: Dysart is much improved in year 3 of the Manuel Alcantar era. With a battle tested group of seniors such as Tyree Taylor and Nikolas Dutcher, and a great supporting cast, Snowflake will have its hands full dealing with the athleticism of Dysart. Snowflake features ballhawking 6’4 senior DB Kurt Wood, who has 6 interceptions and 6’3 junior DL JR Fox who has 9 sacks.
13 Pueblo @ 4 Estrella Foothills: Props go out to Pueblo Head Coach Brandon Sanders for leading Pueblo to back-to-back 7-3 seasons and getting the Warriors into the playoffs this year. They will have to be very physical with Estrella Foothills, which has great size and depth in the trenches, allowing stud RB Joe Logan to rush for over 2,200 yards this season.
14 Payson @ 3 Pusch Ridge Christian Academy: Two teams that want to pound the rock offensively and keep the ball out of the opposing team’s hands. Chaz Davis, Wyatt Chapman, Alex Suarez and Ruben Estrada are the 4 headed monster that is the Payson offense. However, the Payson defense must play lights out to win this game. Pusch Ridge has become a contender in Southern Arizona for division 4 noteriety. Tighten your chin straps for this game.
11 Blue Ridge @ 6 River Valley: The two most recent defending division 4 champs. This is a rematch of the 2013 season state championship game. River Valley has only allowed 60 points the entire season, and Blue Ridge has scored 180. The Yellow Jackets are 3-1 in games decided by 2 or less points this season, showing they can win in the clutch. The big question is, do they have enough in the tank to slow down the Dust Devil offense, which has scored 439 points this season.
10 Casa Grande @ 7 Lake Havasu: Casa Grande features an outstanding combination of junior QB Brock Hall throwing to junior WR Trevor Russell (18 TD) and sophomore WR Cameron Gardner (10 TD). The future is bright for the Cougars. Lake Havasu allowed a division 4 low, 5.8 points per game, this season. Against the 2 playoff teams it faced, Lake Havasu was 1-1 and gave up 44 of those 58 points. This game is an opportunity for the Knights to show everyone that they are the real deal, and not a team that has benefitted from an easy schedule.
15 Combs @ 2 Show Low: Combs played 6 playoff teams this season, finishing with a 2-4 record. Despite an early season loss to Show Low, they are battle tested and bring a run heavy offense into their second matchup of the season. Show Low is a complete football team that can score and stop teams equally well. Seniors Mason Fagotti (6 INT) and Willie Wyatt (13 total TD) lead the undefeated Cougars on their quest for the Golden Ball.
