I got the opportunity to watch the D6 ALL-STAR game in Duncan this month. Other than a big rain storm to start the game and non-functioning score board, it was a nice evening and a well-played battle between two good teams. The Red Team, led by Coach Slade defeated the Blue Team, led by Coach Luzania by four points (I don't remember the score because the scoreboard wasn't working, but I think it was 46 to 42).
Blue Offensive player of the game was QB Parker Blair from Pima.
Red Offensive player of the game was QB Brock Slade from Mogollon.
Blue Defensive player of the game was LB Logan Sherwood from Pima.
Red Defensive player of the game was DL Baylend Stephens from Mogollon.
Overall game MVP was WR/CB Elias Olmos from Superior.
I can't remember the coaches awards, but I think C/DL De'Chambre Dosela from Ft. Thomas was one of them. Maybe someone else who was there can remember the other coaches award recipient.
Blue looked as though they would dominate and scored easily on their first drive, held Red to four and out, then were on their way to score again before fumbling inside the 10. Red fought back and then it was back and forth, but came down to two turnovers by Blue that gave Red the edge. It seemed like Blue probably had more total yards, but the two turnovers were the difference.
Conspicuously missing from both teams was a good kicker. Neither team could kick the ball very far downfield so resorted to squibs and onside kicks. Neither team attempted a PAT kick, but that's not uncommon among 8 man teams.
