I am curious as to what the participation numbers are like this fall for the small ball programs represented here. Up? Down? About the same?
I am hearing a lot of "My parents won't let me play because of the fear of concussions". That seems to be the excuse for almost every kid I talk to who is choosing not to play.
In my opinion, right now football at every level is the safest its ever been. Better helmets. Better education on the best way to tackle. Rules in place to help prevent collisions that would impact the head. Yet we have more and more kids not playing because of the perceived danger of football.
Don't get me wrong. I am aware of the dangers and the potential seriousness of head injuries. It is not an issue to be downplayed or ignored. But it seems to me the fear of concussions and the severe long term impact of them at the HS level is being a tad bit overblown.
Thank you Will Smith and the Liberal left wing media.
