What's going on is they have very little to no talent. They lost their best player and QB to a transfer this summer and they have a young team. It's strange to see them at 0-4 but it was expected with the talent they have. I'm sure in the next couple years they will improve but they may not win more than 2 games this year.
QB went to Desert Vista, playing DB there. It might be awhile til' VC gets back to its winning ways. Especially when you have other options. Upside to rural football is you either play for your towns team or don't play at all, generally. Not really the same for the valley.
The upside is rural schools have an immobile but limited talent pool to choose from versus having the ability to recruit kids or if things go sideways lose kids to recruiting? There is no upside for the rural schools in that equation. Those kids may not go to Valley Christian, they may end up at another private. VC has just fallen off a cliff.
Do not jinx Wickenburg with asking "what happened to VC" the week they have to play an 0-4 VC team. I think VC has had a brutal schedule. You look at records and Wick should blow them away but Wick has played four team with I think three combined wins. VC has played some good teams.
Wide open. River, YC, NWC, ALA, Sabino, Show Low, Snowflake, maybe Casteel, maybe Florence... and Pusch Ridge who is defending. Match any of those teams up head to head and you have a hell of a ball game. Of the teams listed, each could win the title. Wide. Open. Wick and Ben Franklin are in the next tier after this.
Valley Christian's opponents are a combined 15-3. Add in Wickenburg at 4-0 and Valley has played a horrible schedule. I am not rushing to judgment about anything with them. They might lose 7 games this year and still be one of the top 16 teams in 3A. Not powerpoint top 16, but better than some teams that make the playoffs. Valley Christian will have played 7 games against those teams. That is brutal.
Sprinkler that's true, but I know Coolidge has had a brutal schedule and now they have hit the injury bug. You definitely need a win in between some of those games to keep these teens engaged, just my opinion.
