I was able to watch the VL and Mogollon scrimmage. The size difference between the 2 teams was shocking. VL had some size to them. They looked huge compared to Mogollon. Mogollons line looks nowhere near as intimidating as last year. There biggest lineman looked to be 175. With all that said that did not stop Mogollon from being the Mogollon that everyone knows them as. There line fired off the ball and were able to open up huge lanes for Boone. Mogollon had a swarming D that shut down VL for the most part. Mogollon may have taken a step down from last year but they are still top 5! VL has some great skill players and will be able to compete with the best of them! Both of these teams are going to have great seasons!
St. David and Pima are both going to be good. Neither team really showed much against each other. They both have big strong kids. Pima is going to be tough running the ball and St. David throwing the ball. When they meet in the season it will be an exciting game. Hayden is not in the same league at this time. They are still getting use to the eight man game. They do have some very good athletes so don't overlook them. When they get things figured out they will be fine.
In the St. Johns/Williams/Tempe Prep scrimmage, the games I saw were Tempe Prep beating Williams by two scores and TP tying Saint Johns. Tempe Prep's defense was just a bit too tough for Williams' offense, but it was a pretty even matchup. Then Tempe Prep and Saint Johns played very evenly, although Saint Johns had two long TD's called back for illegal formation and holding. Defense was very good for all three teams. I had to leave before the last game so I didn't see Williams play Saint Johns.
