How good of a game is this gonna be? Hopefully a good one... I might be incorrect but from my memory it seems that in the games Mogollon vs Pima/ Joe City while Bryant is coaching the team that loses in the regular season beats the other in the playoffs. Maybe the coaches strategically not playing all their cards during regular season vs each other? I believe this is # 1 vs # 2, which way will it go?
I hope that this is a good game. And Yes last year Mogollon did beat Joseph City in the regular season only to lose to them in the championship game. But the year before Joseph City won the regular season game (which was played in Heber) and went on to win the title game also. The thing that I think is interesting is the the home team has lost this rivalry game 4 of the last 5 years. So look for a good game come friday night.
I also agree that this could be a #1 vs #3 matchup, with Pima being #2. Joe City is the defending champs two years in a row, so in my book they are #1 until somebody beats them. That being said, Mogollon has a couple of things going in their favor. Having lost to Joe City in each of the last two championship games, Mogollon is going to be hungry. Coach Slade won't have to spend any time trying to motivate his boys and get them fired up and working hard. In addition, it looks like Mogollon has had a little better schedule so far this year and has had the benefit of playing against somewhat better competition.
Two good coaches, two good programs, two good teams . . . . My guess is that it comes down to one or two plays that make the difference . . . . . . . . and Joe City's defense wins the game.
As beat up as Pima is right now and with the struggles they had this week, I would have to say they are #3 behind these two teams. They can still get healthy and find their stride to challenge these teams later in the year. In fact in about three weeks they go to Mogollon for a matchup the next to last week of the regular season. This may be Joe City's only real test before the playoffs--however they do play Duncan at some point.

It has been tradition for a while now.
The best rivarly in 8 man football should be at the end of the year. Think Ohio St./Michigan. UofA/ASU. Oregon St./Oregon. The Apple Cup. Etc.
Mayer/Orme, St.David/VU, Gila Bend/Ajo, etc. should all be played the last week. IMO.
I am with you on this one I like the tradition. And I feel as long as they are the most competitive two teams they should play it the last game of regular season. That goes for all of them not just Joseph City -Mogollon
I don't think it is disappointing, rather something to look forward to. SJ and RV have played early in the year for a long time now. It is still usually a hard fought competitive game that has not diminished in intensity because of when it's played. It might actually be more intense in the coming years as nearly the entire coaching Staff at RV is former SJ standouts and they are both competing for the same golden ball at the end of the year now.
Here is to hoping Mogollon/ JC get to play an early season game as well as maybe an end of season for all the marbles game as well.
