I looked at the power points rankings by section and found this:
section 1: 1. Joe City* 2. Mogollon* 3. Mayer* 4. Orme 5. Ash Fork 6. Fredonia 7. Rock Point
section 2: 1. Pima* 2. St David* 3. Duncan* 4. Superior* 5. Ray 6. Valley Union 7. Hayden
section 3: 1. Joy Christian* 2. SPA* 3. Salome* 4. Bagdad* 5. Valley Lutheran* 6. Gila Bend 7. Chandler Prep
The * denotes teams that are currently in the top 12 of the power points rankings. Looking at these lists I feel that section 2 is the strongest from top to bottom. Look at VU at #6 in their section, I think they could probably beat a few teams in the current top 12--Salome, Valley Lutheran, maybe Mayer. Section 1 is the weakest even though they have some very good teams at the top. I'm not buying that 5 of the best 12 teams are from section 3. There needs to be more games played across sections so that we can get a better read from the power points. The loser between Duncan and Superior may be in trouble as far as the playoffs go and both of them are top 10 teams for sure. I thought this was an interesting way to compare the sections.
Agreed. Section one is very top heavy, with only 3 deserving teams.
In section 3 Joy, SPA, and the winner of the Bagdad/Salome game is deserving. VL is a borderline team right now. If they were to beat Bagdad, they would for sure deserve to get in.
In section 2, Pima, Duncan, St. David, and Superior are for sure deserving. If VU goes at worst, 2-1 the rest of the way, that would put them at 4-4. But look at their schedule. Much tougher schedule than a Salome, Bagdad, or VL.
Ray should have at least 2 more losses, so that will eliminate them. Hayden will have at least one more, so that eliminates them.
Notice how I use the word "deserve". That is a very subjective word. My opinion could be different than the next guys.
I think when this thing shakes down, there is going to be a lot of debate as to whether a team like Valley Union deserve to be in at 4-4 with a very tough schedule. Versus a team like Salome or Valley Lutheran, who have had weaker schedules in comparision.
