Pima, Joy Christian, Joe City and St. David all have first round byes.
If Valley Lutheran upsets Bagdad,, which they could if O'Brien is rolling, then 5-12 is still a mystery. If Bagdad beats VL then this is the more then likely the match-ups for the playoffs based on AIA power rankings.
Tough year for valley union, they could probablyh put a beaten on five maybe six of the teams that make the playoffs this year. For sure mayer, bagdad, and salome. i thought that was the purpose of power points to make sure teams like that make it.
i understand that. i am not saying that they have more points, i am saying that they are a better football team than some of the others that are going to the playoffs. and not just slightly better in my opinon they would dominate a few of the teams that are going to the playoffs.
Four games still haven't been reported from this past weekend in the power points rankings. So the numbers will be changing a little bit. The St David @ Pima game will decide the top four seeds. IF Pima wins, the top two will be 1. PIma 2. Joy Christian and #3 and #4 will be very close between St David and Joe City. So you may see an undefeated matchup between Pima and Joe City in the semifinals IF Pima wins this week.
IF St David wins, St David will be #1 and Pima will not fall past #3 or maybe even #2. Either way the possible semifinal matchups will be Pima vs. Joy Christian and St David vs. Joe City. One of those four teams will have to deal with Mogollon as well in the quarterfinals.
Ace39, Tony is a great coach and his teams in the past have been great but this year they are young and beat up. I don't think that they would put a beating on any of the top 12 teams. They have not beaten a team with a winning record and neither has Duncan which is their closet lost. Don't look at their teams of the past and base this season power points as the deciding factor. If we were back in regions they wouldn't even have a chance to make it this year. Besides with a Valley Union win and a Duncan loss in the final game that could put them in at 12.
1. St. David 2. Joy Christian 3. Joseph City 4. Pima
5. Mogollon vs. 12. Duncan 6. Scottsdale Prep vs. 11. Bagdad 7. Valley Lutheran vs. 10. Salome 8. Superior vs 9. Mayer
How do you have Pima at #4? if they lose to St. David they will fall to #3 at the lowest and when they win they will stay at #1. Joe City will stay #4 no matter what. I think the hardest road to the championship game will be the #1. The best 2 teams in the state will play in the semis. (unless by some crazy event St. David goes #1)
Joe city will still be lower than SD or pima after they have 1 loss?? it would be better for SD or pima to lose to get on the other side of the braket from joe city. maybe well see the jvs play!
WC... are you suggesting that SD & Pima throw their games this week just to have a different seed for the playoffs??? If all you are worried about in the playoff's is playing Joe City, then what difference does it make if you see them in the semi-finals or the finals???? You would have the beat them either way in order to win the whole thing anyway. Using that logic you might want to rather play them in the quarter finals or the semi-finals so that you have less chance of an key injury in an earlier round and will be as healthy as possible for that game. Then you have nothing to worry about on the rest of the perceived cake walk to a state title.
Not sure that I would go into any type of State Playoff tournament and overlook anyone... just setting yourself up for being upset by someone in the first or second round if you are looking ahead to the semi's and finals.
Yes that is how strong of a sch. both Pima and St. David have this year. The combined record of the 8 teams they played this year is Pima's opponents were 29-24 or 55% so far and St. David's opponents were 25-25 or 50%. While the 7 teams that Joseph City played went 16-31 or 34%. There was still one sch. that was lighter than Joseph City's and that was SPA. the teams they played even with mogollon in there went 16-35 or 31%. Joy Christians sch. was a little tougher their opponents went 19-31 or 38%.
So yes with Pima and St. Davids Sch. I do not think Joseph City will even be the # 3 spot. But like someone else said you still have to play the best to be the best. Look at the path Joseph City had to take last year. They Played Ft. Thomas at home. Then I think they went to St. David. Then Played Bagdad in the Semi's to get to play Mogollon. Who had already beat them.
Any thing can happen in the play offs. I have bean able to watch 7 of the top 10 teams play so far this year. And It has been a very fun year in the new D6. Can't wait for the playoffs to start. Good luck to all the teams.

Superior has a steady passing attack. They'll spread you out in the open field. It has shown that Mayer has a problem with open field tackling. With them all banged up I don't see it happening. Sad deal :(
