Superior beat Ray 34-12. Score was 28-6 at half. Before superiors QB got hurt . He passed for 3 Tds and ran for one . Didnt play most of 2nd half. The defense of superior looked pretty good , very intense, and flew to the ball.. Stopped Rays offense majority of the time . Ray only scored on 2 big plays.
At Jay Leno's suggestion, this game was played at night at ASDB with no lights. St. David scored early and often in the first quarter, under the waning light of a warm Tucson evening, but as the sun slipped into the west horizon, ASDB fought back and began to find success moving the ball in the shadows. As the darkness settled like ink and monsoon clouds blanketed the summer night sky, ASDB subbed blind players in for deaf players and took a decided tactical advantage. The Sentinels appeared to score easily as St. David struggled and began tackling themselves and running into goal posts. However, referees also seemed confused in the dark and could not ascertain when the ball was dead or if any ball crossed the goal line. The line judge fished a maglite out of the glove box of his car, but batteries died before any ASDB scoring could be verified. Teams met after the game and agreed to play next year's contest in three feet of water in an effort to level the playing field. The Sentinels did seem more bouyant, so perhaps 2013 will be their year.
ASDB may not win a game this season, but it will not be for a lack of trying. They fought hard against the Tigers and actually collected more first downs and won time of possession.
I watched the Mayer vs Rancho game. I wasn't impressed with the cats at all. They couldn't pass at all, and their young RB would only dance around. There were some questionable play calls (Going for it on 4th and 4 on your opponents 27 yard line). Mayer was just flat, their pass defense was getting disected.
On the other hand, I was impressed with Rancho. They only had like 11 guys and toughed it out that whole game. They had a good pass game for sure. The team was more disciplined, and executed better. They took the game to the final 50 seconds, they played with heart aswell. I'm not saying they are a team to beat, but they will definitely not back down from a fight.
LittleLead, for a Mayer team that was flat and had their defense disected with the pass, they managed to come back and beat an impressive team with a good pass game, who were more disciplined and executed better, right? So, that says something about Mayer, I would think. They won the game.
