I was told today by coach Morgan that RV/Morenci was tied 0-0 at half. He said RV had a couple key kids go out in the second half and Morenci took over. Anybody know if this is true or just rumor. Looks like Morenci will run the table, as well as coach Morgan suggesting Williams will probably run the table as well. St. Johns will be 3-3 after this week and should finish 7-3. He said Morenci and Williams will probably be way ahead of them in PPs at the end of the year because of this. Can't say I disagree with him, that probably will happen.
This is a perfect example of the issue of PPs and why you need human intervention. Put Snowflake, BR and Show Low on Williams or Morenci's schedule and they probably lose those 3 games as well. So how do you fix a system like this?
Fix the system by going back to four conferences and only counting conference games. Win your conference and get in with a first round bye. Second place in your conference you host a first round game. Third place in your conference and you travel to play second place teams. Fourth place you're out.
Then we're back to the problem of weak teams from weak conferences getting in the playoffs when stronger teams from strong conferences are left out. I still like that system better, though, and it wouldn't punish a team for taking on a Blue Ridge out of conference game.
I know there are other difficulties with the conference system too... we've talked about them before.
I think you make one simple change of adding a human element to it, and you have a near perfect system. I think th old system was horrible with regard to automatic conference berths for he reason you mention. The old 2a north was pathetic at both football and baseball. Truly only 1 deserving team each year in those sports out of that conference. Some other teams in much more difficult conferences were getting the shaft under that system. And I agree, you can't punish a team for losing to BR, Show Low, and Snowflake, but that is exactly what the current system has done and will do again this year.
I agree that the system is flawed,i am sure morenci and williams would like to play some tougher teams. They dont get to choose who they play and they get chewed up for not playing any one.If they could play a few top teams we would know who the better teams are.
Let me be clear, I'm not chewing any one for the schedule they have or don't have with regard to computer generated scheduling. I have always felt you play who is on the schedule that the computer spits out, without complaint. My concern is for a seeding system for the playoffs that can realistically rank the teams at the end of the year, and take into account not only W/L record, but who you played to achieve that W/L record.
The current system is a joke, and I think it is in place so nobody has to answer any tough questions, and I doubt they change it for that reason. But clearly, Metroinsider is capable of looking at a team and taking those things into account. That's how you have a PC at 5-0 sitting 3 spots below a St. Johns at 3-2, soon to be 3-3. And Williams at 5-0 sitting at a #12 7 spots below. Metro is a whole bunch closer to being right, than the computer will be at the end of the year. St. Johns will be between a 10-15 seed, and RV may not get in--thats a joke, and kids pay for that stupidity!!!! Reality, regardless of record RV is a top 10 team, and St. Johns is probably on par with Morenci, both are probably top 5. Lets see what we get in PPs at the end of the year.

Sounds good. Here are my demands:
1) I need a salary over 50K with a pension plan. But the details of the contract will be top secret. No financial details of the deal with be made public.
2) We will call the power points "seedings". And we will not disclose what type of formula I am using.
3) We will force all schools to input stats into a data base. Why? Just because.
4) If schools dont comply, we will strong arm and threaten them by telling them that any records broken will not count.
5) If anyone doesnt like it, too bad. We are above reproach.
Actually, I think a committee of 3 to 5 people, assigned to each division, who actually go out and watch the teams play would be enough. Not some big salary, just pay for mileage like an official, give them a complimentary pass for all AIA sanctioned events. The cost would be minimal, and the product (playoff seeding) would be much, much better than what we have now. When you have 12 seeds winning titles, theres a problem with how you seed the playoffs.
