Has anyone read Oberts article on the PPs formula in Az Central. If not, you should as it still sounds like after a Q and A that most people have no clue how it works. Sounds like most believe Margin of Victory factors in. It probably does, as evidenced by the extremely complicated formula, which I believe is probably used to cover up the fact the margin of victory or Points for and points against has some bearing. As mentioned in the article, this is completely contrary to AIAs victory with honor.
In a 60-0 ballgame last night I saw a team still dropping back and throwing passes, to the outrage of the sidelines whose score was 0. If coaches don't understand the formula, and think Margin of victory is a factor this will continue to happen. Take a team--like last night that may be on the bubble, and who can blame them for trying to do what it takes to get your team in. The AIA better figure it out, and better figure it out quickly so that coaches, kids, parents, administrators and officials understand the formula. If points for and points against truly are a factor, they should ditch the system immediately. If those people think margin of victory is an issue, things are going to get really ugly in some games as we head down the stretch with teams on the edge of not getting in.
