Salt River has a very respectable field and facilities and the field is catered to 8 man football. Being in the valley makes for more than likely decent weather and a good neutral site for all scoops. Just a thought..
Sorry - Salt River High. Yes 80 hard field for 8 man ball. I kind of feel the D6 game is belittled playing on a 100 yard field with cones and restructuring. Also seating at Salt River High is excellent. Just a thought...
Salt River H S has a Very well maintained grass field with excellent facilities. It would make a great place for big games. Plenty of lighting, great public address system and bleachers on both sides with press box. I will be bringing bug spray just in case however. There is a non biting, flying bug there that may annoy all, players and fans alike.
Salt River does have a very beautiful stadium. My question is: What happens if Salt River makes it to the state championship? Does the fact that they are playing on their home field give them an unfair advantage?
I think that's why they always go for a neutral site, and unfortunately there are no neutral sites I'm aware of that are naturally configured for 8-man football.
Add to the list of 80 yard fields: Joy Christian. If they want to move to 11 man football next year, they've got to: (1) remodel their present field; (2) put in a bigger field elsewhere on their property; or (3) rent a field.
If memory serves me correctly (getting up there in years, you start to wonder), Mayer has an 80 yard field unless they've expanded it to 100 yards since I was last there. Metro would probably know best.
Unless they have moved the goal posts recently, Mayer also has an 80 yard field.
Before the 2005 season, the goal post were moved back to accomodate an 80 yard field when Mayer moved back down from 2A.
At the time, we all just figured that everyone was still playing on 80 yard fields. We didnt realize that the rule book allowed for a 100 yard field or else we just would have left the goal posts where they were.
As far a football fields are concerned Gilbert Christian has the nicest field by far! State of the art turf, or whatever it's called now a days. It's a standard 11-man field but is converted to an 8-man field on game day. The press box is small but nice. Where GC is lacking is the size visitor stands. In order to host a championship game they would have to expand them for sure. Concession stand and restrooms would also need to be upgraded. Too small.
