I think these are some great first round matchups. I dont think any of the higher seeds are locks to move on.
Salome at Mesa Prep: I think Salome might be the favorite here. But Mesa Prep should give them a good game.
Duncan at Valley Lutheran: If VL's QB Riedel is back, they will get a huge boost to the offense. This will allow Gabrielson to move back to his normal position and it will make the offense more potent.
St. David at Joseph City: JC should win. But they arent good enough this year to overlook a team like SD. If they turn the ball over and play sloppy, the game could be interesting. If JC shows up and brings their A game, they could win by 3 or 4 scores.
Gilbert Christian at Bagdad: Bagdad should win. But again, they just cant show up and expect to sleepwalk to a win. Gilbert Christian is a fast team and they will be super pumped up to be playing in the first ever football playoff game in school history.
So much for the St. David will be a cake walk idea! St. David started slow and got down early, 28 - 6 at half, then lost their Senior stud linebacker/running back, Myka Campbell early in the 2nd half and still played Joe City pretty much even in the second half scoring 28 points while JC scored 32. JC scored 1/2 their points on the same play??? The Tigers give up 126 points in the last two games. Quite a contrast to the Tigers from 2 years ago that only allowed 89 points in 9 games?????
You are correct, Joe City scored half of thier points on a swing left pass, they only ran three plays the whole second half. St David's DC should be ashamed for not making the proper adjustments at halftime. The Tigers played thier butts off and should hold thier heads high. They were undone by the DC's inability to recognize what was happening.
Not to take anything away from Joe City, they played a heck of a game. If they can get by Joy I see a Joe City-Mogollon rematch in the finals
86miner you surely exaggerate. JC ran more than 3 plays in second half and it was not a simple swing pass left that killed SD. Losing Campbell really hampered the Tigers' ability to stop that pass to FB (roll right, throw back left). They stopped it first half so no halftime adjustment was necessary. They adjusted to stop the run plays that JC capitalized with in the first half. I thought SD adjusted pretty well offensively and found a weakness in JC's defense and exploited that in second half and JC could not stop them. Defensively it was losing their best defensive player (Campbell) that really was the difference in the second half. Had Campbell not gone down, this game could have been a shootout because SD came back. I thought it was a good, hard-hitting game. Both teams looked pretty beat up after the game.
FballFan99, you are correct both teams played extrememly hard and were worn out at the end of the game. Losing Micah Campbell really did effect they way the Tigers played defense in the second half, he is a beast on both sides of the ball. I still only saw 3 base plays, QB sneak, run right, pass left. Micah would have recognized the pass and would have dropped back into coverage to stop the pass. What a even better game had it of been had he able to finish the game.
As far as as the finals, i just dont see Pima making it through. As far as Joe beating Joy, Joe will have to bring their A game. It is fun to guess at what might happen but that is why they play the games.
You are both missing an important point here. When st David lost Campbell Joseph City lost their middle linebacker he never played after that. Just saying their is a reason the middle was a little soft in the second half. And their were a lot of second string players that got a chance to play in a play off game.
When Campbell went out the score was 34-6 so with him in Jc scoreed 34 points. When Jc middle linebacker went out St David had only scored 6 points. With him out they Scored 28 more.
Pima is heavily over-rated based on the film I have watched, and the scores they have produced. They have played no one. St. David is not a D6 power this year with losses to Duncan and Valley Lutheran. Pima should have held them scoreless. If I am wrong I will gladly eat some serious crow, but i see Mogollon beating Pima easily.

As of about 30 min ago, I have now seen all the top D6 teams either in person or on film (minus Pima).
So I have no idea if Pima is "overrated" or not. Its quite possible. But its also possible that they have been laying in the weeds all year. They have been heads and shoulders above every team they have played. So they really haven't had to open up the playbook or haven't had to put the pedal to the metal for a full four quarters yet.
But I will disagree with the last thing you said: "I see Mogollon beating Pima easily".
That wont happen. If Mogollon matches up with Pima in the semis, and beats them. It will be far from easy.
And I will gladly eat some serious crow if I am wrong.
Does anyone also consider that there are teams that don't feel the need to destroy their opponent as thoroughly as they can every single game? St. David returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown against Pima. Two minutes into the second quarter the score was 36-6.
Film? I've never seen film where a team's size and speed are accurately depicted. Everyone looks slower and smaller on film.
